Right so if the new one is reported at 475, it will dyno at 500 or even 525.

Any updates on this? Was the 25 HP bump for 25 just a rumor ?

Do you, I'm waiting till August 2024.
Obviously not now😁, was just letting the member know that was asking to wait til the official promos were out next year or to your point, until it's actually released.

Yeah so I guess the test mule IS the CS and the base model will just be the Comp going forward in MY25.

This, I bet they go hybrid to get the extra power bump. It’s the way they will convert you to battery - sneak it into the performance cars. I don’t hate electric or hybrid, but the M cars are heavy enough!

No hybrid, they are just going to remove the detune on the M2s S58.

Current engine mapping
  • 453hp @6250-6250 rpm
  • 406lb-ft @2650-5870 rpm
MY25 engine mapping (same as base M3/4)
  • 473hp @6250-6250 rpm
  • 406lb-ft @2650-6130 rpm

It is not really a retune as such, just the 550Nm (406lbft) torque plateau limit has been extended from 5870 to 6130RPM

In the current tune 550Nm at 5870RPM correlates to 453bhp as follows:

Torque (Nm) x 2 x Pi x Engine_Speed (RPS) = Power(W)

550 x 2 x 3.14159 x 5870 / 60 = 338,088W = 338kW = 453bhp
550 x 2 x 3.14159 x 6130 / 60 = 353,063W = 353kW = 473bhp

The peak power at 6250RPM is sort of a nominal value, as the same peak power is nominally made at the end of the torque plateau.

Thank you for the data

The BMW figures should be the minimum output expected, going by their conservative history of engine output, as there will be variation between engines. They have been pessimistic in quoting the figures compared with some Japanese manufacturers in the past who have been optimistic in their engine output specs.

Based on the nominal specs and dyno results published so far, you can pretty well overlay the S58 curves in the M2/3/4. Whether they all make more torque and the torque plateau ends at a different engine speed above the quoted value may just indicate the engines really have the same tune and they all will make over 473bhp.

So far it seems all dyno results that have been published have more than the quoted max torque above the top torque plateau speed. Quoted max power is fairly academic when torque is known, as it is just derived from the measured torque value.

I’m not convinced the “power upgrade” will be easy to detect or measure, it may be more a paper exercise which is just a re-stating of the current engine output in a less conservative manner, with variation from engine to engine being more than the quoted power increase.

By the definition of the max torque plateau starting at 2650RPM for the S58 tune in the base M2/3/4, they all have to be making a nominal 153kW / 205bhp at that engine speed. Bearing in mind all the mechanical components are the same, the only thing that can be altered is the turbo boost applied above that engine speed and the ignition advance (although you normally want to optimize that to the maximum advance for the fuel grade and boost without pre-ignition).

The torque curves (and consequently the power curves) are therefore going to match all the way up to the end of the torque plateau where the boost will be curtailed to reduce the torque and hence the power.

It remains to be seen from a large sample of S58 dyno plots whether the nominal max boost pressure does end consistently at different RPMs for the M2 vs M3/4 engines, or whether there is more variation between individual engines.

wondering when this will kick in. OP said MY25 is not a comp, but i bet when the switchover to M2 comp is made, there will not be a manual as is case with M3/4
