At least your slower traffic keeps right. Here I think people think of the left lane as the texting lane so they only have another car on one side of them.

Make a couple trips a year to the Bay area and from my limited experience this is a perfect description of traffic heading up 101 toward Santa Rosa... Crazy but just as often I'm doing 5 mph!!

This is what I experience mostly, as well.

It happens so often, over the extended period of time I've been driving / riding now that I actually anticipate and expect a driver entering a 3-4 lane highway from the right entrance ramp, aggressively merge at close quarters (higher chance with no signal that actually indicating) across all lanes of traffic to get to the far left, passing or fast lane (whatever terminology you prefer) then as soon as they make it to their comfortable position in traffic... I end up having to pass on the right and notice the otherwise inexperienced, discourteous, oblivious or selfish driver (whatever terminology you prefer) either texting, talking on the phone, putting on makeup, eating, reading or tending to kids in the back seats... but I'm sure only having to worry about vehicles on the right makes them feel comfortable not actually driving.

Bingo! I’m actually an asshole about it and do my best not to let them in front of me since I’ll only have to go around them anyway. But sometimes conditions don’t permit me to do so without being an asshole to someone else so I relent and then go around them.

Agreed. And the disturbing part is less and less people then move into the right lane after you do. They used to seem to realize their mistake and move into the right lane after you pass them in it (giving them "The Look" of course) yet now they don't even look over. Many times they are on their phones. Police seem to refuse to enforce this.

When I head to the farm for the weekend I have to drive on I-70 for exactly 50 miles and I bet I pass 3-5 people each trip in the right lane - even when there is not a car within 2 miles of them.

When I am not rushed and feeling petty - I will pull back into the left and slowly take my cruise down 1 mph at a time and see how slow they will go before they pull into the right lane. It always shocks me how many people will slow down 10-15 MPH before they even consider passing you. LOL

I used to do that all the time.

Drivers in NH love to tailgate me for no reason, even when I am in the right lane and the left lane is wide open. So I started playing the "How Slow Will You Go?" game. On a highway with a speed limit of 55, and where most people do 65, the lowest speed I achieved was 40mph and I could have gone lower, but I gave up and sped away.

The vast majority of drivers seem to just zone out and follow whatever the car in front of them is doing. That's why we get packs of cars all bunched up into a half-mile long rolling blockade.

I blame this 100% on Millennials. And now they are starting to train the Gen Zers to drive. We're doomed....

Driving on the highway now is like a real life version of the Digital Derby game I had growing up.

I do have a fix for this though...just need the construction crews to put annoying rumble strips in the fast lanes (or create that annoying humm sound while driving in the left). This way...everyone will want to drive in the right lane.

Hey!!! I had that game growing up, too! It was FAB! Bit repetitive after a while, but still gave me hours of fun lol.

I have no idea what happened to it unfortunately. However, I still do have my working Astro Wars that I would have got around '81 or '82

I fire it up every now and then for a bit of nostalgia. Even though the sound effects are a bit jarring...

Yup - it's very much a Space Invaders clone. The nice thing with this is the concave screen which gave a slight illusion of it being in 3D

I also have a working Vectrex as well, if you remember those. Happy days!

LMAO - 1,000% agree! Only way to keep my road rage in check - play games. I play with the "coat tailers" too, which is what I call the people who are too big of a pu**y to speed on their own, but want to tailgate you all of a sudden when you pass them going 20 mph faster than them. I will slowly take it up to like 90-95 a few mph at a time, then just turn my cruise off and see how slow they will go before they pass you. Of course they immediately think you have detected a cop and go with you, till you hit those 10-15 under marks and still dropping like a rock then they finally pass you looking at you like you are eating a small child or something.

I let them get a little ways ahead of me then toss the cruise back on and go past them again - if they fall in again - I rinse and repeat as long as needed.

Great way to pass the time since unlike most drivers - I don't use my phone for entertainment while I drive........
