Just picked up Russian Standard Platinum. Too smooth for me. Prefer Original, has more bite.

The Maderas 5+3 wasn't bad. Not as full bodied as the Kirk and Sweeney 23, but I guess you would expect that to be the case when comparing an 8 y.o. rum with a 23 y.o. rum. The 5+3 wasn't as sweet, either. Had a bit of spicy smoke to it.
Tonight I cracked open the Aberlour 12. I like it. Considerably lower in price than the 18, but doesn't leave much on the table. Good choice for a DD, I think.

I sampled the Hibiki I bought for BILIL and kinda glad I gave as present. I think I just stick with Aberlour for a while

I did something similar waaaaaay back when I very young and exceedingly stupid. I had been downing screwdriver doubles at the NCO/EM club (a whopping $1/drink.) Got back to the hooch later (1st tour in Korea) and only had orange Fanta to mix with my vodka. Not quite the worst hangover ever, but damn close. Running PT the next morning was no fun.

Sippin'
Basil Hayden's Whiskey.
Smooth and delicious. Goslings Old Rum. Perfectly sweet, nothing else like it. I think it is the best spirit on the planet.
