What do you guys think of this: https://www.lorextechnology.com/hd-s...WF2080B-62-1-p
I need it for a cabin. I don't want to spend money on a subscription. I don't want to hard wire anything, I'll just change the batteries 2x a year. Only thing is I don't think it will send alerts to the app on my phone, I could be wrong. This is much more of a want than a need. If it was a need I would just buy a home security system like I have at home.

Did you give the Eufy cameras a try? I like the thought of this system using its own storage rather than a cloud subscription service. It looks like Eufy also allows RTSP to record the video to NAS systems as well, which would be useful.

The Ring interface is nice, as is the tie-in with the neighborhood watch program. But I have one gripe, and I would caution you to research it: when you get an alert for motion, or the doorbell rings, it takes a long time to "activate" the camera into a live view. So by the time you get the live stream going, the person or thing that set off the event is long gone from view. This is a unique issue - and does not apply to capturing motion recordings. I'll explain. The system does an excellent job of capturing motion and sending HD recordings of that event to the cloud, where you can later retrieve that recording for viewing, so it's not like the camera takes too long to begin recording - it's only when you want to instantly go live to a particular camera that is delayed and frustrating. For other reasons, I recently upgraded my home WiFi to the Orbi mesh network (using 3 satellites), but I had the Ring system in place using my old Linksys unit. Same issue in both scenarios. My signal strength on all cameras, indoor and out as measured by the Ring app is very good...it seems to be a common and persistent issue among many Ring users regardless of signal strength. I've tried viewing over my WiFi as well as cellular networks, and also downloaded and tried the "Ring Lite" app. The app receives frequent updates and tech support is generally really good too. YMMV.... |

cut the cord, now looking at out door security systems. all these systems have their pros/cons but where they all get you is in their subscription costs.
some are are inclusive meaning no limits on cameras connected while others charge per camera which can add up quickly depending how many your using. sharing info on the 4 solutions i narrowed it down to below. i am leaning towards the unifi setup... direct ethernet cable supplies data and power providing a direct secure connection to local storage. $0 subscription costs, everything is local and secure. Setup Criteria: x2 Outdoor Highest Spec Available Cameras Nest Nest Cam IQ Outdoor $1,000 ($500/each) Connection: WiFi Storage: Cloud Audio: Speaker + Microphone Camera: 8 MP Video: 1080P FOV: 130 Degrees Night Vision: 850nm Infared LED Subscription: $80/year (30 Day History) First Year Startup Costs: $1,080 5 Year Costs: $1,400 Benefits: Google ease IP rating Negatives: Subscription costs high 1080P Wired Google owned…data privacy and security Ring Spotlight Cam Solar $460 ($230/each) Connection: WiFi Storage: Cloud Audio: Speaker + Microphone Camera: Specs Unknown Video: 1080P FOV: 130 Degrees Night Vision: Yes (Specs unknown) Power: Solar Subscription: $0/year ($30/year for 30 Day History) First Year Startup Costs: $460 ($490 w/ subscription) 5 Year Costs: $460 ($610 w/ subscription) Benefits: Least expensive start up costs Solar – no cables or recharging batteries Least expensive subscription costs Negatives: No IP rating Amazon owned…data privacy and security 1080P Arlo Ultra $600 ($300/each) Solar Panels $160 ($80/each) Connection: WiFi Storage: Local/Cloud Audio: Speaker + Microphone Camera: 8 MP Video: 4K FOV: 130 Degrees Night Vision: Yes (Specs unknown) Subscription: $0/year ($120/year for 30 Day History) First Year Startup Costs: $760 ($880 w/ subscription) 5 Year Costs: $760 ($1,360 w/ subscription) Benefits: Local storage microSD no subscription needed Medium start up costs Solar – no cables or recharging batteries (extra – standard is chargeable battery with wired setup as option) Expensive subscription costs 4K Negatives: No IP rating MicroSD not included Netgear owned…data privacy and security Unifi G4 Pro $900 ($450/each) Cloud Key Gen2 (Includes 1TB HDD ~65 days recording) $200 Switch 8 60W $110 Solar Panels N/A Connection: Wired/WiFi Storage: Local/Cloud Audio: Mic (No Speaker) Camera: Specs Unknown Video: 4K FOV: 130 Degrees Night Vision: Yes (Specs unknown) Subscription: $0/year First Year Startup Costs: $1,210 5 Year Costs: $1,210 Benefits: IP Rated 100% local storage - private Power over ethernet – everything direct secure connections $0 subscription costs 4K Negatives: No speaker High startup costs

There’s a whole thread on this. Let me save you some time and research though. It boils down to:
1. Wired cameras are terrible with motion detection because it’s pixel detection, not motion. The most recommended one is Reolink. 2. Wireless cameras are not as great because it only records when there’s motion. If on battery you’ll change it every now and then. Eufy cams are really good and cost effective. Their batteries last a year on a single a charge. 3. Best way, IMO, is a combination of the two. Get a 5-6 cams wired Reolink set and combine it with Ring floodlights (if you already have Ring subscription it’s a good way to go, especially with refurbished units) or Eufy cams. If you really want to can even get a doorbell cam. Then you’ll have best of both worlds: 24/7 recording and motion and light motion detection. This is what I ended up with. I went with a 2K resolution Reolink set with 5 cameras that record 24/7. I can check on it anytime I want. Then I have Ring floodlight for driveway and spotlights for the back along with non camera floodlights (already had them). Already have Ring alarm service so monitoring fee for those cameras are included. Also, lifetime warranty on cameras for as long as I have the service. All for $100 a year. |

Also note not that wireless/wired can mean different things. For me, wired means power and data via category cable or AC power. Wireless means power via category cable or AC, but data via WiFi. When you say wireless, you mean power via battery and data via WiFi. |

This is the equivalent of saying "don't buy a BMW...every time I drive mine, there's a gauge on the dashboard that gets closer and closer to the letter E" |
