jeez
Pretty bold decision on Borland's part given that he was due to make $540k this season. Not that much $ in terms of big $ contracts but more money than most (if not all) of us would see in a year's time.

However, there's no doubt that there's a very real risk of permanent debilitating head injury from playing football. He says he's going back to school to pursue a career in sports management which means that he may become an agent, in which case, he could end up making as much or more than he could have as a player w/o the risk of such an injury.

The irony is he'll be making his money from people risking their health to play sports (esp. football). Not hypocritical per say, but definitely ironic.

It will also be interesting to see how this affects future drafts. Will more teams downgrade players that have more cerebral thoughts or options?

This is a terrific point. Drafts being all about those market inefficiencies now--I bet you're on to something.

You should expect to collect your $100 and pass go by week 7.
a more fairer bet would be how many the 49ers would lose this year.

Now Anthony Davis retires!

This is becoming laughable. 12 players who started at least 6 games are now gone. We will see how much depth this team really has this year.

49ers institute a new policy where players are allowed a 10 minute cell phone break every 30 minutes.

Glad to see they got their priorities straight after all this off season hoopla

Nope! Funny, how as a millennial, I can go hours at work without having to check twitter/facebook/instagram/bimmerpost. Yet professional football players who supposedly have a tough mind and body can't stand 30 minutes without it.

Read the article and now feel better about it. It's less about the phones and more about keeping the teams attention during long meetings. I think this is an effective strategy and if they happen to use the phone while taking their break, so be it. Better than going out for a smoke.
