Whilst on the subject of age and clothing, I had to wear 3 piece suits with a choice of white or light blue shirts and matching pants. Still around but much better styles and options!

They work great. I go to Costco. The price is around $1,500 for a pair. That would be $7,000 elsewhere. My hearing is pretty bad so the hearing aids make life bearable. I still have trouble hearing some frequencies, but its way better than without the hearing aids.

I went to Costco after having friends recommend them. They tested my hearing and I compared the test to the one I just had done by the private audiologist. The results were the same. Costco fitted me with hearing aids for $1699. That was 8 years ago. The current Signature 10.0 is $1,399 a pair. There is no fee for tests or visits. Costco works well for me. |

Costco wouldn't sell to me unless I had a private Dr sign off on my loss. Dr doesn't want to do that, they want the sale So I wear my dads

WTF??? I haven't tried any "online" sources either, figuring they would do the same to me. So I wear my dad's, which are NOT configured to my hearing, but at least a little louder. |

The bottom line is that for me, my hearing (quality) is very valuable, so I bit the bullet and wrote the check. With these new (a year ago) hearing aids I still find it amazing at what I had been missing for many, many years. This is a quality of life issue.

And I feel that my hearing is important, not only for work but also family life. I simply can't participate in many conversations.
BUT, PhonaK at Costco was about $2k, the ENT audiologist office wants upwards of $7k. They aren't giving me THAT much additional services, and I can learn to clean my own hearing aids. I find it hard to believe that hearing aids from 2018 can't be programmed to my specs, they aren't THAT old (even if I am) |

Can I get an amen? My come-to-jeebus moment was at an annual dinner for the engineering group at the steel mill; I was standing at the bar waiting for a beer when I happened to look to my right and, lo and behold, there was a guy talking to me. If not for my eyes I would not have known. In my case that was almost 40 years ago, before I qualified to stand on the lawn here.

I don't know if it is where you live, but from what I'm reading in your posts I'd say you need a new ENT. If they won't write a prescription, write 'em off. |

My first job was working in a large butcher shop that was also part grocery store. We had these big, oaken pickle barrels where you could fish out your own pickles. Sawdust all over the floor. Bored kids shopping with their clueless parents. You get the picture. I was constantly cleaning sawdust out of the pickle brine.
