From MT "GM says the 2008 automatic-equipped Corvette is the fastest auto-'Vette ever, with a claimed 4.3 second 0-60 mph run. Although official acceleration numbers for the manual version have not been announced, we expect to see a couple tenths shaved off its 0-60 mph sprint." Still 4.3 seconds is a ways away from 4.0 seconds. and even further from 3.3 seconds.

Definitely Vette.
This would be my top 5 list of 2 drs and 4drs, they're not necessarily in order except for the Vette being #1 out of all of them. They're all under $50k base price and all are at least 300hp with the exception of the TL Type S at 287hp.
Coupe: 1. Vette= bp $46k 2. 335icoupe= bp $40k 3. 350Z= bp $28k 4. G37= bp $37k 5. Challenger SRT8= bp $40k est. Sedan: 6. 300C SRT8= bp $40k 7. IS350= bp $37k 8. Acura TL Type S= bp $38k 9. Evo X= bp $30k est. 10. Pontiac G8 GT= bp under $35k est. |

Key word is CLAIMED. MT used GM's numbers and didn't actually test the 'Vette performance wise. It was C&D who got it in 4 seconds. MT got it in 4.1 seconds when they did test it themselves. Even the 2007 'Vette with the LS2 making 400 HP/400 lb of torque got to low to mid 4 seconds in most tests. I would be worried when a ~3100 lb car with that much power can't break 5 seconds 0-60. |

im surprised there are some who doesn't know how much of a beast a "normal" Vett is. most performance for ur money is def. a Vett. yes, a GTR is a monster but i wouldnt say $75+k is CHEAP in any way. however, a C6 can be had for $47k and it does 4 sec 0-60. low 12 sec 1/4, and it turns with the best of them especially for the price, you cant beat it (i bet many will start saying Vetts can't handle.. it can only go striaght.. that kinda bull-crap.)
when it comes to modding, it also responds very well to mods for very little money.. not to mention it comes 400+hp/400+TQ right outta the box.. like you really need more than that in a normal street car. |

The (old) Gallardo beat the 999R on Top Gear, this is all I know of the matter.

Here's the video: http://www.uponone.com/videos.php?id=5704 A stock Porsche GT3 runs Road America, one of the largest and most storied road race tracks in the US, in 2:36. I ran my 600cc SportBike in 2:28. 1000's run by non-factory pros can easily break the 2:20 mark, and factory pros low 2:teens, all on Supersport-legal bikes. At my hometrack, GIR, which is a small twisty track, R-compound shod race prepped Vette's run 1:08's. I ran 1:08's on my 600 but the track is configured with an additional slow speed turn for cycles, meaning I was at least 2 seconds quicker apples-for-apples. |

Chevy hasn't put the LT1 motor in the Corvette since 1996. I have a 2007 Corvette sitting in my garage and trust me, it doesn't have a LT1 motor in it, and it sure as hell doesn't do 0-60 in 5.3 unless I start moving, stop and wait 1 second, then start again. The LS2 based Corvettes (2005-2007) run low 4's all day long and I believe either M/T or C&D got a 4.1 out of a 05-06 model. BTW, if all you care about is power and no options, you can pick up a base Corvette with the LS3 for less than 42K right now at any of the main high-volume Corvette dealers in the US (Kerbeck, Les Stanford, etc.). 430HP and 0-60 in 4 flat for 42K is unmatched bang for the buck in a new stock car. |
