Looks quite stately and very Rolls Royce-like. The big grill works on such a large luxury car. I like the clean lines. The interior design is also nice. Given when this design appeared it is definitely a classic design for BMW

So the big grille cancer has been metastasizing inside BMW for almost 25 years.

Longer - after watching this video I was checking out other BMW design studies (ie. concept cars) from over the years. Here's a design study prior to the e38 from 1993:
In more of a profile it looks a bit like a 4 door e31. Shows they've been toying with the idea for a long time - a bit like the BMW V6 engine. I saw an article with some BMW engineers a while ago where they were saying that they've designed many V6 engines over the years, each time they bring out a new generation of engines it is considered. The inline 6 designs have always won out in the testing phase so none of the V6s have ever gone in to production. |

In this example the front plate doesn't interfere with the grill and the grill is rounded which matches the general design theme of the rest of the car. The current grill is the exact opposite. It conflicts with the rest if the design due to its trapezoidal features and the front plate cuts right across it.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_Series_(E36) As for the Z3 one of the ugliest BMWs ever IMO looks like a clown’s shoe. |

Development of the E36 began in 1981[4] and the exterior design was heavily influenced by aerodynamics, specifically the overall wedge shape, headlight covers and smaller wing mirrors.[5] The lead designers were Pinky Lai[6] and Boyke Boyer.[7][8] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_Series_(E36) maybe he tried to ruin it but they didn't let him....

Damn, crazy to see that even in the mid 90's there was technology being developed that we today still consider new or high-tech for cars. Really love these videos. wendy's lunch time surveyzop.com
