Deposit down for the only one my dealer is getting. Now time to bed down and hibernate for the long wait.

On the flip side, being "on the list" for a "maybe" car has cheaper payments, insurance and gas costs. Not to mention, you can brag about features the eventual real car may never have and bad-mouth the physical world cars that don't have those features.

It is a win-win... Other than not getting to drive a cool car.

Seriously, I see this as folks who are on their 3rd M (or other manufacturer equivalent) and can drive those while they wait to be first on the block with something "special-special".

Exactly this! I drove a G42 waiting for my G87, enjoyed every moment of both. Will try for an LCI / CSx / etc as and when..

My dealer has had my EOI on the CS since I picked up my M2 in June..

This isn't rocket science. This is practically the only way you get a chance at a rare car. My dealer had 1 CSL and 2 M3CSs. If you want the holy grail MSRP allocation, you're probably too late.

If there is already a list then you are too late. Get a dealer to make a list and you may have a chance. Get ready to pay ADM too.

you're number 1 on the list and just put your deposit down?

I put mine in maybe 6 months ago and was number 2, another dealer I called had more than 5 deposits down at that time.

DM me which dealer if you wouldn't mind, I might try them

I already spoke to my dealer about this. They told me they do not take deposits until the car has been announced. I guess different dealers do things differently?

Why does everyone get so bent out of shape over this lol. If it’s a refundable deposit, who cares. Could mean that you get an exclusive car with really no risk. Get MSRP in writing, no dealer add ons, refundable etc. I don’t think anyone would be in this group if $1k was going to make or break them. If ifs non refundable then find yourself another dealer..

It's not a bad idea to get on a list early and the deposit is refundable if they never come out with one. That said, anyone that can afford a CS, which typically cost upwards of 30% more than the base model, probably isn't losing sleep over a few $k deposit.
So, you are putting $5k (or whatever the deposit) away for 2 years so that a dealer can flip it 10 times and make $30k on it and then charge you over MSRP to make additional $$ on the vehicle. Capitalism at its best...

As long as there are those who allow this behavior, the practices will continue and the greed will live on!

I agree with this, many dealers will build these list early and use that information to push for more allocations as well. In my case I put my name first on the M2 CS list without deposit needed. GM assured me once open I'd get the first call. That is all I'm asking, I love the current M2 and know I would love the CS version more so I'm waiting. In the other flip I put in and had my name get called for a GT3 sadly once building it and dealer adding 60k over MSRP I stepped down gave my spot to the next guy. Your not locked in and if you are working with a non refundable dealer well there is your sign of a shady dealer. lol Many peeps I have talked to gawk at the idea of putting deposit down for a chance to order a car, have never even looked into it. There is a proper document "contract" you sign when you put deposit down. If you don't have one of those you nutz for doing it and have a bigger pair then I.

My dealer told me people who passed on the 23/24/25 G87 and sat on the sidelines playing the “what if”, “wait list” and /or delaying a G87 allocation will not be considered for a CS in favor of a current G87 owner who also wants try and secure a CS model. Also, if you’re a flipper you need not apply.

Agreed. If it’s a reputable dealer, showing commitment early is only going to help you in the future - as long as you get everything in writing.

I’m usually in the camp of “not worth it”, but given the direction BMW is headed I pulled the trigger and put a CS deposit down - my dealer had 1 allocation and I’m first in line. I don’t intend on selling this machine as long as I can get a nice purple/violet color and they honor MSRP😎

Also… please enjoy the car you drive or already have. I still enjoy my E90 328i EVERY single drive❤️No need to talk down about others doing something different.

It appears many have never ordered cars before.
There are always deposit lists for cars/versions that may be released down the line, especially with performance vehicles.

Now what I find hilarious is people who are still waiting on lists (C8 Stingray for example) when brand new, heavily discounted cars are sitting on lots all over the country.

I had a deposit down twice for a specialty performance car way back. Both times the dealer screwed me out of the order, so no more. We did order my wife's last Grand Cherokee before the model changes and pricing were available. That deal was at 4% below invoice, so I was fine giving $1k deposit.
