My almost 9-year old CF roof has held up well, but we don't get the kind of sun you do.

I'll be a garage queen most of the time but for those days it's not, it will be punishing. FL folks will be in for a rude awakening in 10yrs when their roofs are yellow.

If that proves to be an issue, you can always wrap or paint it at that time and enjoy the weight savings for many years.

FYI, most PPFs have UV protection within the film and they are also warranted for ten years. Note, that the removal on old PPF can damage the clearcoat. It does not happen frequently, but it is a risk that many PPF installers do not want to take 6, 8, 10+ years later.

Why would you think the roofs will be yellow? On a prior car, I had a cf VIS hood and decklid, they were clearcoated and ceramic coated and no issues.

There are many car that have been coming with cf for years. I dare say if they didnt hold up, they wouldn't keep making them. While its painted, the 992 GT3 RS comes with most of its body being cf.

Do you think companies like Capristo and Vorsteiner would remain in business if the cf parts they made and installed on supercars failed?

It's easy when the cars are in garages most of the time. Have you seen cars from the 2000's with exposed carbon? Honestly most look terrible IME 15yrs later.

I agree if you ceramic coat and take care of it it will last. Same is true for normal paint though.

Edit:The other thing is: it's simple, epoxy and resin turns yellow in sunlight. There's no getting away from that.

I've been cycling since 2005 on and off. Anything but the best carbon frames look terrible after so many years in sunlight.

Shit, that’s a good point - is there anything I can do to protect the CF?

Two opinions, PPF or a ceramic coating so long as either has a UV protectant.

This is good to know. I've been worried about the CF roof turning yellow. I don't have a garage though, so it will be outside full time.

So CF roof and manual helps save about 100lbs?

I wish we had a steel roof option. The only reason I like the carbon roof is for the additional headroom.

Only off the heaviest spec car: sunroof, auto. Mine currently weighs 3735 with 90% gas and 827M wheels. 1/2 tank of gas I'm at/under 3700lbs without carbon seats.

The lightest stock specification would be carbon pack, solid paint, bi-color wheels and skipping all other options.

What, in this context, does "solid paint" mean? (Do you mean non-metallic?) And why bicolor wheels, is there weight difference by color that I never heard about?

It stands to reason that painting something adds weight. If the spokes are machine-finished, there's no weight. Also, yes, metallic paint typically weighs more. The reason being is the additional material and extra clear coating.
