Smart man. My wife convinced me to pay cash for my M2C. First car I bought that wasn't financed or leased. I love not having a car payment.

I’m okay with 2-4%. I pay off early. Usually half the loan life. I refied one loan once. Pretty easy to do. But, yes, cash is king. Especially in this crazy economy.

same i paid cash for my m2c 6 months ago. figured it would be better there rather than taking out a loan with interest and then trying to invest to beat the loan.

i do realize its a bit elitist to tell people they shouldn't buy a car unless they have the cash to buy it out though. still, the crazy interest rates should make you think twice about purchasing unless you put a huge down payment.

even the lease deals look pretty bad.

Passed on a HEA spec. Horrible colors and options are not what I want. Also the timing with the 7.49 apr is off and leases are horrible. Maybe in 12-18 months I am “ready” to pay cash for a car. If it was a deal I would have pulled the trigger but 100k for a car that isn’t exactly like I want rubs me the wrong way.

It is with a heavy heart that I canceled my order a month ago. I was #1 in line with a $2500 deposit I put down in late 22. I am still #3 at another dealer, but probably not going to get the car even if they offer me the same deal as the first dealer. (Hoping those behind me in line were/are given good news!)

Has nothing to do with the car, but rather its intended use. I already have a reliable DD and don't need my "sports car" to have a daily focus in anyway. I wanted my weekend toy to be a back-to-the-basics, pure sports car and so I'm in search for that instead.

Had I needed a 1-car solution, I would've bought this hands down. The M3 is awesome too, but not 100% in love with its looks. Can't wait to see the forum members start posting pictures of their cars!

What # on the list did you end up on? I was # 3 at the dealership just around the hwy from yours and got mine in the last round. Just asking for an idea of how they each have allocations rolling in for future reference.

I have never placed an order, but I have totally lost interest for many reasons.
After having had the 1M and M2 Competition, I will move to another brand.

For those in the UK, there's a few dealers offering massive discounts on M3s/M4s - but it's actually the BMW Finance pricing on each models that's making the big difference.

Therefore, like-for-like, i'd literally being paying only £1,248 more for the M4 over 4-years of ownership.
I had a similar journey but cancelled my M2 order before the reviews because I couldn’t gel with any of the available colours. Originally ordered TR but was very disappointed when seeing TR in person. Only alternative for me was BSM but wasn’t convinced by that either.

I got a big discount on an available M3CX build to my spec and a minimal increase in finance cost with the same deposit. With a thundernight 230 already in the garage, the M3 seems to make more sense too.

Car is built and waiting on transport from Germany so expecting delivery in a few weeks.

was on a list. cancelled.

too heavy, big, and waaay too electronic for my tastes—will keep 1M as only car (the M2 was supposed to become the daily)

This is no “baby M car” anymore—and I just wanted another one, not an M4 Jr.

I am # 11 and the projection given is just that. A guesstimate, nothing more. Best of luck to you!!

I went completely stupid, started with an fully spec'd M2 order, put down at $1500 deposit. I was so far down the list, I wouldn't see it for a long time (24th). I then changed to a M4 order, (96K out the door). On a whim, I started looking at M8's, I found out that lightly used M8's are close enough in cost to compete against new M4's. I went with an M8 with 6k miles for good price. I am going to wait see what happens with the used M2 market. For some reason people ditch high end cars at an alarming rate after purchase, and I am hoping lightly used versions can be had down the road. For now, I am enjoying the M8, it is blindingly fast and has a very nice interior.

Same reasons for me, it's gone too far in terms of electronics, it's hard to digest the new having had the old ones.
I drove the G81 for a while and didn't feel at home, too many settings, too many configurations, what you need isn't at hand and there are too many useless things (iDrive 8 was my nightmare), I no longer had the feeling of a car built around the driver, with driving pleasure as the main purpose. It's hard to explain in words, but it's pretty easy to understand if you have/had the 1M and/or the F87.
Just a silly example: the DSC button does not turn DSC off or MDM on, but opens a submenu on the screen and from there you can select between MDM or DSC off, so it takes 2 inputs to turn DSC off or MDM on, absurd. And if you set the DSC off/MDM on the M1/2 steering buttons, it takes a few seconds to confirm the setting (for security reasons, I think). It's not the end of the world, but what the heck, it's an M2, not an X5!
Add to that the extra weight, the poor color choice, the lack of customization, and the 50% price increase over the M2 Competition not matched by 50% more added value.
I could even have accepted this (not at this price, however), but the main limitation for me is the powertrain, I like the S58, but it doesn't pair at all with the manual gearbox (I drove a manual G80), and the ZF8 isn't exactly to my liking.
Too many flaws, too many compromises to accept, no thanks. Porsche is in my sights.

I had an M2 order, deposit down June last year, fully loaded with carbon buckets. My dealer gave away my allocation to someone who put their deposit down 6 months after me. I cancelled my deposit and bought a g80 M3 6mt with 3200 km from another dealer instead

I want to thank the people that are on top of the list and canceled. I placed a deposit on Nov of last year, I was #12 on the line. I was just told I am #2 on the list and will be on the next allocation. I doubt my dealer has gotten 10 allocations already (it is a big dealer). My guess is half of the people in front probably canceled for one reason or another.

Just curious, how much money do you need before you have FU money?

Not that I condone profanity, of course.

Minimum a million in the bank at any time with several other investments to pull out of if needed. When I achieve that. Which I’m nowhere near at this point I’ll have f u Money. But that’s my view of it

Read estimates of it costing upwards of $300,000 for one's elderly care (back in 2013/2014 was costing $72,000/year for my elderly parents' care and a co-worker was spending $13,000/month for care for his mother in law's at home care) so $1M in the bank with at least $300,000 held in reserve is hardly FU money...

I have no idea what elderly care has to do with f u money but that sounds like one if not the biggest wastes of money. 13k a month to take of a elderly woman is nuts my mom takes care of my grandma in house and barely makes 40k a year.

Assisted living facilities/nursing homes withbthe additionof elderly care, without insurance or other type of assistance, will cost $5,000 - $10,000 month.

i'd add on that you have all debts paid. having a million in the bank but still owing 700k on the house, student loans, cars, etc isn't the point where you can tell the boss to F off and quit.
