I have some good news on this one. Read about it somewhere on a Google search. My HUD would 98% vanish with my MJs on. After getting clear film on the front winshield the MJs dim the HUD by about 50%. Still very usable! Just had the film applied 3 days ago and it works.

Edit: This is on my 2022 X3M Comp.

Whhaatt, this is the first I have heard of such trickery. Is it film just where the HUD is or did you do the entire windshields. I am very curious about this.

I found it in various forums when googling the problem. I had the whole windshield done in clear.

I have a "clear" tint on my Audi front windshield below the dark top strip that is supposed to block UV rays and reduce cabin temps. Would not have it done again. When driving at certain times of the day (morning and early evening) when the sun is at a certain angle it obstructs a true clear vision through the windshield.

Maybe I will look into getting just the HUD area covered.

I had zero interest in the HUD until I read your fighter jet comment. Now I'm excited about it.

HUD worked at about 70% strength with my Persol polarized sunglasses. I was fine with that (on my previous F82 but the tech more or less should be the same)

Polarized is an absolute must especially here in sunny SoCal. I think the lens thickness, material, color & tint shade play a role as well.

What might work for one, may not work for the other.

Yep. Mine are grey lenses and worked OK. I bet if some are amber, blue or green you're going to have issues.

I originally didn't choose it as an option but I test drove an M3 Competition with it and ended up really liking it. I've never had a HUD in a car so it was a novelty for me. I didn't think it was really worth the £1,000 or so but then I thought, "screw it, better go all-in so the car is exactly how I like it".

I have blue-green polarized lenses and the hud is dimmed about 50%. Still totally functional a max brightness.

HUD works with my blue polarized lenses. I do have the angle slightly adjusted.

A note for those that don't happen to know. Many (all?) modern HUDs have a ROTATION angle setting to work better with polarized lenses. It's not up or down angle, in case that wasn't clear.

As the the OP question, I consider the HUD to be a must-have. Nav integration is awesome. But now that we've lose analog gauges it's even more useful since it's harder to read LED displays using peripheral vision, IMO.

Yes, I have posted about this several of times, but it does not appear to sink in.

It's a very ymmv situation, which might limit the saturation level.

Another very easy solution I have discovered, slightly tilt your head for a few seconds.

I've rotated my HUD, but it was still dimmed to about 10% of brightness, even when I adjusted the brightness all of the way up (which was then too bright to use without sunglasses). Which might have been due to the type of polarization in my sunglasses and I haven't had a chance to try with another pair. Which is why I say it's a YMMV situation.
My easy solution is having a pair that is not polarized for when I get the m2.
