Just picked up our HEA this afternoon. There was No Digital Key and could not see anything in the App.

I place the phone in the area of the picture displayed but nothing happens (it says connecting but nothing is showing an actual connection).

Sometimes it doesn't work with a phone case. Your CA should have set this up for you though. Shame shame.

I just got my recall notice in the mail today for the digital key for my 2023 M240 (it listed all the affected models which included the M2). It says dealerships can begin making "repairs" May 1.

BMW doesn’t know much. Got info from BMW Australia’s website and then emails from BMW Canada saying the same.

I have a theory.
On G42s the charger/NFC reader is behind the cupholders.
I assume the placement is the same in the AT G82 (since all G42s are AT).

In the MT M2, because they had to redesign the console for the shifter, space was lost behind the cup holders (my iPhone 13 Pro doesn’t fit flat in that cubby), so they moved the charger to under the armrest. In this process, they lost the NFC reader (since the card wouldn't be held upright and close to the reader).
So, no Digital Key.

If my theory is correct, the M3/4 MT can get the digital key if their NFC/wireless mat is a horizontal tray like in the G42.

Ah. Didn’t realize they had moved the location of the wireless charger on the manual. I guess that does make sense. I was looking forward to using the digital key when I occasionally take my car to go mountain bike. Bummer.

Yea, if thats the case I’d like to know too. I’ve spoken with an idrive8 dealer trainer in my region and also someone from BMW NA that both explicitly stated the manual M2 does not have digital key functionality. Doesn’t mean that they both weren’t wrong, but based on some media from BMW Australia saying only the auto M2 gets digital key, I believe they’re right.

Side note. The MyBMW app was, and still is, prompting me to register for digital key and the trainer put in a ticket to fix it as a bug. Same reason why remote start isnt visible in the app for manual owners. I still see it in my app, but I was told I shouldn’t and it would be fixed in the app.

OK, this is very sad. I have never noticed this about the manual M3/4. I guess I should know this as a client advisor but I have never personally sold a manual M car before.

I was really looking forward to having digital key in my M2 and I guess I am not going to get it.

I haven't set it up on my car, I was just basing my answer on the fact that the myBMW app has a big blue button that says "set up digital key." Sorry if it was misleading.

I'll try it out tomorrow and report back. I don't have the wireless charger, I've seen mixed opinions on whether that is a prereq for the digital key.

I mentioned it in my post, but I see the same in the application. An iDrive8 trainer stated this was a bug in the application and manual drivers should not see it. This was after trying all possible steps to get digital key to work (the trainer was not informed it was a manual and clarified once provided the VIN). So far everyone I've spoken too in BMW + BMW Australia article say digital key is not available on manual.

I don't think this will sway very many people on their transmission choice... The manuals are already slower, less efficient, and (Arguably) less commuter friendly if you deal with stop and go traffic. Either you want a manual or you are already in an auto.

This is exactly my feelings on the matter. I also don't get remote start or radar cruise control. All of these things shouldnt be a problem with a manual, but whatever. I want it anyway.

Did your car come with the physical digital key card?

My app shows "Set up Digital Key" so I'm going to assume I can set up the key in the app. Haven't attempted to do it yet but I will at some point today or tomorrow.
