We know that BMW always underreports their HP, and some early dynos seem to imply the G87 has roughly 500 at the crank. I'd like to see some more data to nail down a precise number, tho. I haven't seen an SAE run yet.

Haven't watched the video yet, but why does he title it M2 "Competition"?
Because he is performing in a competition? Seems a bit misleading...

Not sure if Teslas or EVs in general may be banned from a lot of tracks in the near future. Our track club had to introduce a no EV policy for this season (previous years we have typically had a couple out on a given track day) due to the 3rd party insurers who cover damage to track infrastructure saying they won't insure track days with EVs, due to the fire risk and lack of suitable fire fighting capability if the batteries are damaged and catch fire.

"Firefighters needed four hours to douse the flames, in part because the battery kept reigniting. When the blaze was finally over, about 30,000 gallons of water had been poured on it—what the department normally uses in a month." |

It was impressive for sure, especially considering it’s on PS4S. It will be interesting to see how far they take it, the Supra was a monster. You can hit 150 going into bus stop in a car with a lot less than 500hp though. I hit 150 there in my 718 GT4 which has 414 naturally aspirated Stuttgart ponies.

Different price points for sure, wasn't a criticism of the M2. I used to own an F87 M2C myself. Weight wise there is no getting around it, 3,800lbs is a lot. Not sure what class they will be competing the M2 in but interested to see how much they strip out of it.

The burning lithium creates a metal fire existing at temperatures of 2,000 degrees Celsius/3632 degrees Fahrenheit. Attempting to douse the fire with water is inadvisable since this could lead to a hydrogen gas explosion!

It was good driving for sure. I don't drive that loose at WGI with my street car. Racing the Spec E30 it's fair game, but not in the car I need to drive home. This guy sure has some marbles.

Thanks guys!!
I’m out at Road Atlanta with the other car so haven’t been able to follow up on this haha. And by the popular demand, I added a comma to the video title after M2, since we just wanted to call the video the “competition debut” of the M2. Unintended clickbait, sorry. Hah. So far the biggest shortfall of the M2 on track I feel is long duration corners, we haven’t quite found the sweet spot in terms of balance and long corners exposes its weight and inherent safety understeer. But you can’t argue it’s not an effective track machine with how it can belt out these insane laptimes for near-stock form. It makes me very hyped for what we have planned coming next |
