I have the IRL mippipe my car. Great fit and finish. Also have their valve controler. Amazing customer service and they reply almost instantly. Any questions have been answered professionally and with pictures when needed.
The midpipe / valve controller is perfect. Hit a button in the remote and it wakes right up. The remote is pretty robust and solid as well. 👍🏻

As much as I want improved exhaust sound, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I look at the midpipe market. $1800-2300? Really? I know there an M tax, but not that long ago you could get midpipes and even complete exhaust systems for $1200-1400. I know materials are volatile right now, but still - Winter is almost here. I think I'll hold off until vendors or manufacturers decide to have more reasonable sales

You and I both man. A few pipes bent using a machine with no cat, res etc costing $1500+ is insane IMO. Even if you use titanium, mid pipe prices right now make 0 sense.

Not the same or a direct comparison..... but, a full titanium exhaust from a tier 1 brand in Tomei for the STI costs $1200 USD...

https://www.parkautomotorsports.ca/p...ubaru-fitments

Less to do with M tax, than first to market vendors trying to set the market price out of the gate IMO.

Has anyone tried to cut the resonator and make a custom mid-pipe?

I am with you on this one. I am blown away at the M tax. I had a Mustang S550 for several years and you could get an exhaust system from manifold to tips including long tube headers, x pipes etc for ~$2000

X pipe alone was only like 120-220 depending on vendor. Long tubes could vary 700-2000 iirc. Cat backs on the high end like Corsa etc 1500.

So yea seeing an EL mid for 2199 seems out there. But I will say thus far the EL from AA does seem the best sound on this platform for a single exhaust mod. Pair it with a dp or ab for even move sound but then the price goes up too.

With the Active Autowerke EQ mid- do we need a tune or can we run this along with an Akropovic axel-back without a tune?

No tune for the mid or axle back. Once you start talking about the down pipe then you need to consider O2 spacers or tuning for the possible CEL.

The tune is almost never mandatory with any upgrade.

The only time you must get a tune is if you change your downpipe and the option you get triggers the check engine light.

in this case, flash tunes takes care of that.

Did you do the full cat back system or just mid pipe? What do you think about it so far?

All these mid pipe prices on BMWs are insane IMO - I recently put one on my 392 Rubicon Jeep and it only set me back $350 shipped.

Random and probably dumb question for you- Can a mid-pipe from one company be paired up to an axel-back from another? Say if the company you want your axel-back from does not make a mid-pipe solution.

In most scenarios, yes, but I would not just assume it and buy different brands.

Once you decide which you wish to get, check with your vendor or forum users before placing the order.

There are very good options on the market, deleting secondary cats will not give anyone any codes, I think Mike has done a job on the forum covering the differences between singles and dual mids, the benefits of adding a controller as well.

I went the IRL route as well. Great response time and feedback on options I chose and the price was very fair.

Now just need to get it all installed.

Never heard of these guys but this does look like a true EL design too. Resonated or non option. Obviously non to avoid it being too tame lol

https://bimmerplug.com/products/s58-...44799237947643

Personally still likely going with the AA EL as it seems to have the best sound for a mid only upgrade.

We have Active Autowerke parts on the Black Friday sale (the website price will be updated next week).

For the price we are offering this month, i'd go with the more proven brand
