I may trade in my Cayman for a Boxster GTS if I can order new and this way I have both conv and a coupe. If not two sport coupes are just fine. That's the state of mind at the moment

Precisely. Both the M2 and 911 are appealing to the enthusiast. However a bright red porsche 911 draws a lot of unwanted attention when at work |

Man OP you are living the dream with that much garage space!
Here's my 2 cents get the M2 since you already have the GTS 4.0 my history reads like this 16 Cayman S to 2020 M2C to 2022 GTS 4.0 so I know a bit about the M2 vs Porsche scenario they offer very different kinds of fun the M2C is more playful in its handling and offers a crazy turbo pull, it also offers awesome bulldogish looks the porsches are precise clinical warriors that engage you in a different way I would go G87 or even F87 M2C since you are keeping the GTS 4.0 best of both worlds bulldogish BMW turbo coupe and NA race car in the 4.0 if you go 991.2 you've got 2 of the pretty much the same thing, only one is worse than the other (and I know you know which one is worse |

Yes sir, G87 it is for now and keeping the GTS 4.0 also
https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2...n-test-review/ In this motortrend comparison, they picked the G87 over Caymans GTS 4.0 which was surprising. So I look forward to swinging emotions while I drive both back and forth.

A lot of you have said exactly what I've been feeling.
I am on 992 GTS waitlist with a deposit down. Been almost 2 years now. I got the G87 to try out while I wait but now enjoying the M2 way more then expected. I like with the M2 there is lots of mods to personalize it and make it perform even better. Where as, 992 I feel like you shouldn't mod it. I am still curious what the 992.2 will be, so waiting for that to reveal. But agreeing with Shehatezme. The GTS has gone up by $25k from when I put a deposit and don't see the $175k performance, where as a GT3 for that price range makes sense. Anyhow, will most likely be canceling my 992 spot. |

There is no way I'll own a high end car that I need to take a key out of my pocket and/or insert something on the left side of a steering wheel to start it.
For the first time I may consider buying a Porsche (other than a GT4 that I was on the wait list for back in the day) is with the new models that finally ditch the stupid key. On a serious note - if you need the back seats for occasional adult use or you want to stay under $80K, M2 all the way. else 911 GTS.

I would lean towards the G87 and use the left over funds to either pay off the mortgage, or if home is fully owned use the additional funds to purchase an investment property...you will be eventually be very happy with that course of action....all cars too soon become memories and good investment returns eventually pay for the toys in our lives. I'm at a time in life where I can pay cash for my cars (due to investments), I really can't go past the G87 for driving pleasure and at a reasonable price. Porsche's remain fantastic cars, but have in recent years become ridiculously expensive as has borrowing money.

Your fallacy is assuming someone buying a Porsche is financing it and doesn’t already have investment properties. Paying cash for a 70k for you might not be a problem, just like paying cash for a $200k car isn’t a problem for a lot of people. |

I was in the same boat, I had recently bought a 718 GT4 and was cross shopping the g87 M2, G80 M3, and Civic Type R. After driving the g87 M2(manual) twice I decided it wasn't the car for me. I actually really enjoyed the Civic Type R more than the G87 M2 and G80 M3. The inputs really were not all that enjoyable to me which is what originally drew me to bmw and I never found bmw manuals enjoyable. I'm someone who really enjoys having an analog and connected driving experience. Most modern cars feel numb and too refined, and even though I got an allocation for a new Carrera T I turned it down.
I ended up buying a 996 turbo for about the same price as a new g87 M2. It's the perfect combination of an analog driving experience but still modern and refined enough to daily drive. It still feels tremendously fast, but is enjoyable at lower speeds as well. |

Former 991.1 owner and now G87 in frozen grey. Not saying its comparable to 991.2, however torque in the G87 much superior as well as most of low end. Top end not sure as still in break in. Miss the cornering a bit of the 911, however I got a new car vs. 2015 and saved a lot.

Got refund on 992.2 GTS deposit already, no interest in 911 anymore.
I was settled on the M2 and was planning to order in December-January.......until last weekend when I test drove the Giulia Quad. That car drives like Cayman GTS 4.0 with four doors. Never felt such good chassis control in a sedan before. I remember test driving the G80 M3 and I didn't even like it. Quad however was stellar but no sunroof and only dark interior (black). So now its between Quad and M2
