It just felt more connected. The feedback from the hydraulic steering was very analog, because it literally is analog. It wasn't artificially heavy, nor did it have a deadspot on center. I could feel everything the front wheels were doing. It was just better at transmitting what the wheels were doing through the steering wheel.

In my opinion there are really no great electric steering racks. F87 wasn’t great either and it was electric. E92 is hydraulic which is probably why you like it. If you want feel you need an older car. The G87 feels a bit disconnected, but it is very precise.
Side note, even the 991.2 GT3 leaves something to be desired. Last great steering for Porsche was on the 997. |

Steering ‘feel’ has a few dimensions. If you want road texture you need to remove rubber from the suspension, the downside is NVH. The other killer of steering feel in this car is the wheel is overly thick and padded. Change to a thinner less padded wheel and change some of the bushings and you will have tons of road feel. Reducing unsprung weight on the wheels also increases your feel of the tarmac. What it won’t change is the way the steering weights up which isn’t as natural as a hydraulic rack. I owned an E9x M3 and the steering was good but the delta isn’t huge, and it’s offset by how accurate the EPS is and that it doesn’t overheat and spew fluid all over your engine bay on track. In terms of ratio I think the G87 feels very similar to the E92, makes sense as they also have a very close wheelbase.

My .02: I’ve owned both F87s and currently own an S54 low mileage E36/7 and a G87. Others that comment the G-series steering is numb, but precise are spot on. I do think it’s an improvement to the F-series steering though.
However ,the G87 is ANYTHING but boring. It lacks the rawness of older, more analog cars but is still thrilling in a different way. I love its dual personality.

its numb but direct. find a member in so FL (theres plenty) and ask them to take you for a ride. lots of feedback through other parts of the car. if you dont like it, dont buy one.
my personal opinion is that its typically a tradeoff between steering feel and luxury feel (no vibrations or unwanted chatter through the wheel) |

My 992 vs G80 or X3MC is night and day different in steering feel. I do wonder why BMW can’t replicate it since hydraulic steering hasn’t been around for a while

Steering
Don't have a comparison of F vs G driving experience but have owned cars that had really nice steering response... wanted a M2 because of the manual... was a little put off when the weight was first reported.. Once I got the M2 I really thought the steering was pretty decent and the weight was a little over-blown.. But I did change to Apex forged rims which changed un-sprung weight and then installed the Millway thrust arm bushings..The bushings made a noticeable diff in response.. even today on a ride, there was a small object in the roadway that I saw at the last sec.. twitched the wheel and the M2 just shot to the right.. even surprised me and put a smile on me at the same time.... I don't track anymore so maybe what is good for me, not so much for someone else.. I really like the M2..I also have an AReeve tune that is strong.. I would say if I was going to track the car on occasion, then the 8-speed auto would be better fit for lap times... Ok, didn't mean to get off the subject...

steering
The Millway thrust bearings did not induce any harshness thru the steering wheel or the chassis... just sharper turn-in response..oh, and I also have the M-Performance HAS suspension...

I fully agree with this. Once the electric steering rack was introduced it took many iterations of it by BMW to begin fine tuning something that felt even remotely correct / precise. Some of the CS & CSL components have vastly improved the steering feedback. Just check out what EVOLVE did with some of their GXX cars. The newest electric racks do have some overall potential. It simply takes some tweaking to get them there.

It only takes a few mods to make the M2 more enjoyable than stock.
