Adding M xDrive as an option provides BMW engineers with more flexibility to distribute torque between all 4 wheels.
More horsepower is likely and that’s a plus. Additional weight? Not a concern. Some grande lattes add more weight with all the syropy additions. |

ynguldyn any idea if this will be an option or a requirement? will buyers still be able to choose RWD and 6 speed, or will all cars be xdrive and 8AT once it is launched?

As much as I appreciate the advancement of any new BMW, however….wouldn’t this canablelize the sales of the M4? Wasn’t the point of the M2 supposed to be purely lightweight and track/driving experience.
Making it a 4 wheel drive is now just turning it to what the M4 should have been… a smaller capable coupe. Which is what M3 coupes used to be since the E90. And I’m not hating because I currently have a 2022 G83 M4 convertible and have complained at how much bigger and heavier it is than the F83 I used to have in 2019. So now I feel like the models are getting bigger, heavier and more expensive. Which requires BMW to introduce more introductory models like the M2 to make up for where it left off. Aside from M xDrive, I guarantee the next generation of M2 will take on even more characteristics of the M4 and be bigger and heavier and more expensive… which will require them to bring back the M1. So what’s the point? 🤷🏾‍♂️ |

Why are people mad about options? An x drive M2 would be great in the snowier parts if someone needs it.

there was an unsubstantiated (so far) rumor that the xdrive 8AT M2 will be the only configuration available after it is launched. obviously that would rub a lot of us the wrong way (if true).

A lot of us already suspected this would be happening. It’s the next logical step as more and more HP is added to the car. No question it will be faster than the RWD and M usually does a good job making the AWD feel like a RWD in certain modes.
However, I lament the loss of the purity of BMW M. If you look back at what the e30 M3 was, it was a light weight sports car with a race bred 4 cylinder with suspension and brakes for the track. It’s light weight made for excitement in all aspects of the car - braking, cornering, accelerating vs brute force straight line speed like a muscle car. Plus, the RWD front engine layout was such a winning formula for excellent cornering and oversteer. Those characteristics have fell by the wayside for all M cars now. Everything seems engineered to feel a certain way (exhaust sound, 4wd, auto, etc) vs organically feeling great. It’s not to say that the cars are worse than they were (because it’s not, it’s still a M car and exciting) just that these are now totally different cars and I see them differently. |

All rumors are unsubstantiated until BMW confirms them. But there is truth in some of them.

My only concern would be that they might discontinue the RWD option and just have M XDRIVE.I don’t have any issue with them now offering M XDRIVE with the ability to switch to RWD.I’m just only interested in the G87 in RWD and after recently test driving one i definitely wouldn’t want it weighing more. Its already noticeably heavier then the F87.

Hello Mr. Source,
Is there any way to put in a request for a manual CS? Me and my friends who like manual driving would love the opportunity to trade in our existing G87’s for an upgraded CS variant. We want to be part of the fun, and not forgotten about as a distant memory. While we respect x-drive option and the ZF8, we can’t seem to get on board. It is fine if we are made to keep what we have, but having more exciting models to upgrade our rides to would be totally awesome! We understand this goes against the modern BMW grain and the CS is built for off the line speed and fast gear changes, but one can only hope and wish one day this changes. Thank you, Mr. Source. -Yours truly, a manual fan. |

This is awesome. If both RWD and AWD were available for order right now I'm not sure which I would pick. I guess the best route for me would be to have both of them.
