Why does it have to be one or the other? Both are great entertainment. TV does not do either justice. TV certainly doesn't illustrate how violent and loud F1 cars truly are. You can feel the shifts, not just hear them. World Superbike was arguably the best/closest racing in 2010. I hope Rossi does do well on the Ducati. An Italian on an Italian bike. Should be great. Schumi will be competitive this year.

Word. Adrian Newey probably affects the outcome of the two championships more than most team principals and drivers can. Only Ferrari, Cosworth, MBZ and Renault provide engines to all the teams, yet some are faster than others. It's all about aero so I can see how the esoteric nature of that technology might make it boring to watch.

The only thing I'm going to miss is the sound of a high revving engine. The cars will still be as fast and development of new fuel efficient F1 engines only means that the consumer market will be blessed with new turbo technology that will allow for even more potent torque monsters that don't get pitiful mpg. Which reminds me of another point that was brought up earlier about 747 fuel consumption vs F1 season emissions. Sure a 747 flying today pollutes tons, however fuel efficient engine development for F1 will continue to push the envelope on cleaner production car tech which if and when implemented on a mass scale will do far more to negate future pollution. Get on the wagon guys. New things are good things.

Sounds to me like something is being seriously lost in translation en route to Poland, or some folks over there just prefer to delude themselves.

At this point there is simply no chance that the production M5 will show up with anything other than an S63 V8. You can take it to the bank.

Personally I never got into F1 racing for one reason or another..I relate more with Moto GP because I enjoy riding at the track and love the tech that trickles down from GP racing into motorcycling,from traction control to the protective gear we wear.Street bikes have a lot more in common with GP bikes,compared to street cars(the ones majority of us can afford) and F1 cars.

Never seen an F1 race in person..Love to one day.I do have tickets to the Red Bull US GP in Laguna Seca for later this year,so I'm excited to see that!

hell, a lot of Americans are just as close or closer to Montreal which is one of the sweetest races all year. I'd just go to that in 2011 instead of wait for Austin 2012. I am sad to admit that I've also never been to an F1 race, though I watch every qual and every race year round on tv. So glad it's going to be in HD this year.

+1 I am going to make a point of going to Montreal because I want to see/hear the V8's before they die.

That said, I think it is going to cost a boat load of money to R&D new I4 turbo engines. I mean it cost Ferrari $100 million to redesign a double diffuser. This goes against lowering cost in everyway that Jean Todt stated when he was running for FIA president. I don't think the cars will be horrible but it is possible that other series will have faster cars which would be truly saddening. F1 is supposed to be the preeminent racing series of the world not some greenie PR test ground.

I would change your "sources" of information. You will be waiting many years to see a v10 come back--many as in never this lifetime. You will NEVER see a new v10 produced again ever in any car, let alone the m5.

The current 5L gets 15mpg on the HIGHWAY if that and 7-8 around city. Do you think bmw would use that engine, make it biger and thurstier to even have the guts to come out with a car doing 10mpg highway/6 city?

I mean just makes no sense with the way they are going green. You should use common sense before "sources" Its a good rule of thumb for life. Common sense goes a long way

Why does the 21st century have to fuck up everything that was great. I'd honestly rather go to an ALMS race than an F1 event now. MotoGP with Rossi on the Desmo will be something to see as well.

Its not all that bad, smaller engines - lighter weight, more optimized engine - burn less fuel - car carrying less fuel on board - again...lighter weight...with just a few HP less, might works better towards balancing the car.
Or, have more accessible "weights" to move around the car to optimize weight balance and the characteristic of the chassis and preference of the driver.

F1 is not all about power. Renault kept claiming they has the least powerful engine last year, look what happened. The great design and balanced chassis will dominate the field instead of a big powerful engine.
