here you go. I bought a new drive and copied everything off of the old one on to this new one and its a bit faster but I don't think it's at the full potential yet that's why i want to reinstall OSX to see if my minds fucking with me or this is how it should be. But I could swear when I first got it, it was much quicker wiht less hard drive noise. Also this drive seems to be quiter.
I booted off of the old drive if that makes a difference here. Also this was at idle with just safari open. Code:
$ export PS1="$ " $ sar -g -p 2 10 13:15:01 pgout/s 13:15:01 pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s 13:15:03 pgout/s 13:15:03 0.0 13:15:03 pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s 13:15:03 0.5 0.5 66.5 13:15:05 pgout/s 13:15:05 0.0 13:15:05 pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s 13:15:05 0.0 0.0 5.0 13:15:07 pgout/s 13:15:07 0.0 13:15:07 pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s 13:15:07 0.0 0.0 29.0 13:15:09 pgout/s 13:15:09 0.0 13:15:09 pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s 13:15:09 0.0 0.0 13.0 13:15:11 pgout/s 13:15:11 0.0 13:15:11 pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s 13:15:11 0.0 0.5 88.0 13:15:13 pgout/s 13:15:13 0.0 13:15:13 pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s 13:15:13 0.0 0.0 45.5 13:15:15 pgout/s 13:15:15 0.0 13:15:15 pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s 13:15:15 0.0 0.0 12.5 13:15:17 pgout/s 13:15:17 0.0 13:15:17 pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s 13:15:17 0.0 0.0 1576.0 13:15:19 pgout/s 13:15:19 0.0 13:15:19 pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s 13:15:19 0.0 0.0 12.0 13:15:21 pgout/s 13:15:21 0.0 13:15:21 pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s 13:15:21 0.0 0.0 20.5 Average: pgout/s Average: 0.0 Average: pgin/s pflt/s vflt/s Average: 0.1 0.1 186.8 $ Code:

^The above looks fine. Were you experiencing the problem when you took this sample? If not, I'd suggest you try it when the problem occurs. If so, then it probably isn't a memory issue. Be aware that if it is a memory issue, the chances are it won't be so noticeable immediately following a reboot.

I did this while copying the other hard drive and opening simple apps like mail itunes etc to show you. and it was under a crazy load
Code:

I benched both drives using a disk speed app
Old - 10.9 seconds New - 5.2 seconds Ok here is what I think is happening tell me if this makes sense. The old hard drive was on its way out which is why it slowed down the computer. It also corrupted some files maybe and those are being copied over to the new one. Also some of the permissions are messed up because after repairing them I check it and they're still there. This is why I want to reformat and do a clean install. But like an idiot i threw away the install CD |
