If you found it engaging in an industrial park, wait until you’re alone in a canyon!

Been there done that. I'm not a teenager. BMW's rear biased Xdrive is much better. That is, if you value pure rocket-like performance and never having to compensate or slow down or make corrections while taking sharp corners at speed. Of course, with a RWD car there is a certain thrill in taking a sharp corner at speed and surviving. But, as I said, been there done that.

Fitted SprintBooster to remove the dead feeling in the pedal. Luckily, since MINI is part of BMW they used the same connector on the G42 as they did on the F56.

I'm betting driver for driver and stock for stock the Camaro SS 1LE will beat the G87 M2 on the track, so it will definitely beat the G42. But at the end of the day you're driving home in a Camaro (which isn't exactly all that bad).
The G42 is the whole package if you're not wanting hardcore track duty. |

I had a 2020 1SS 1LE. Gave it to my 21 year old son who tracked it until the consumables became too much for his Air Force pay. Last edited by XC3LLR8; 05-31-2023 at 11:00 AM.. |

Thanks. He ended up being a driver on a M3 team after the owner invited him to drive the car and he beat the owner's time by nearly 2 seconds. LOL He occasionally instructs on weekends and even set a couple track records for his category in the M3. He still swears by the 1LE for what it's capable of with virtually no mods and its ability to run all day long in Arizona heat with zero heating issues.

What’s impressive is the M2’s lap time was just behind the ZL1’s time by only .07 seconds. |

I wish they'd throw some Cup 2's on the M240i and see what it runs. It may be a little too close for comfort to the G87 M2. Edit: Doesn't look like the Supra was on Cup 2's. May explain why it didn't beat the G87 M2 like it did in a previous test. |

And just to contribute to this thread, I just traded in my 2022 M240 Xdrive for a G87 M2. The M240 is a nice car and it’s hard to beat what it offers for the price but I just didn’t enjoy driving it like I hoped I would.
It wasn’t so much the car, it just made me realize how much I missed driving a rear wheel drive, manual transmission car. Also in the looks department, I know everyone’s been shitting on the new M2. When I first saw pics of the G42, I definitely wasn’t feeling the way it looked until I saw one irl. I don’t know why but pics doesn’t really show off how nice it looks irl. Same goes for the G87, I reserved judgment until seeing one irl because I was underwhelmed after seeing those leaked pics. I eventually saw one in Zandvoort Blue and even though that color isn’t my cup of tea, I had the same feelings as I did when I saw the G42 irl compared to pics. It has a much better presence and look irI and I prefer it over the G42 in that department. All in all, they’re both great cars that offers something for everyone depending on what you’re looking for. |

One gripe about the manual version M2 is some reviewers have said it feels dead in the lower RPM ranges. I was kinda expecting that given the S58 isn’t as torquey in the lower range compared to say a B58 or S55. Going by dyno numbers, I don’t think the S58 in the M2 is less powerful than the M3/M4 but I think BMW has tuned the torque curve for the M2 on a higher RPM range than the M3/M4. I would say the “around town” butt dyno advantage goes to the M240 because of the B58 having more available torque in the lower revs (especially with X-drive) but keeping the M2 in higher revs while shifting feels intoxicating so far. |
