FYI, I have personally seen this performed countless times at BMW Plant Spartanburg and for a period of 27+ years. Edit, They are not measuring what we would typically measure on a dyno at a 3d party performance shop, HP/TQ. As aforementioned, it is more of a functionality test. Good to know.I never saw them doing that outside at the Regensburg plant.I did the tour way back in 2005 when the E46 M3 was produced at the plant.

Just got back from driving it. I’m still smiling! My shifts from 1st to 2nd are a little rusty, but that will come back in no time.
It has the Michelins. I’m wondering if black wheels = Michelins? Just what I’ve notice in previous posts. I’m picking it up Monday after work. |

Yes but as you know not all cars do the test track. The vast majority just do the “dyno” at different speeds for a couple of minutes and are then driven out of the factory to be shipped.

Yes, only because I’ve done the tours. The guides kinda get excited talking about that secret room.

My friend's arrived at their dealer in PA with Michelins. They're 20 minutes from my dealer. I'm betting that since my car wasn't on the same truck as theirs, that mine will have Pirellis.

Gee why all the hate on Pirelli tires?
My 2002 Boxster came with Pirelli tires and I ran them more than half the 317K miles I put on the car and Pirelli tires were fine. At some point when suitable Michelin tires dropped in price to very close to Pirelli tires I switched to Michelin. The Michelin tires were ok -- I mean they were as good as Pirelli and I was quite pleased with the Pirelli tires -- but I could not tell which brand of tire was on the car without having to get out of the car and look. While I only put 8100 miles on my 2020 Scat Pack it came with Pirelli high performance tires and they were very good tires. Now I admit the Pirelli all season tires that came on my 2018 Hellcat sucked but that's not necessarily the tire's fault but Dodge's fault for believing all season tires on a 4600lb 707hp car were ok. Might as well put tractor tires on the car... Had I kept the Hellcat any longer -- traded it in with 27.5K miles on it -- the car would have needed new tires and I would have at least gone to Pirelli high performance tires. |
