I think the F87 will hold just fine. Especially a lowish mileage CS in 10 years time. A well kept M2/3/4 rarely loses value over the long haul if kept in good condition and not crazy high mileage. The E46 is still my favorite design, and if I could find a gem for a decent price, I'd be all over it.
I have to admit, the G87 is not terrible. The rear is the sore spot for me, but my 12 year old son who is a car freak said the rear is the best part. It's not productive to say the F87 sucks or the G87 is ugly. BMW is evolving for better or worse. The bad is the weight, but from all accounts, they've figured out how to manage the growing waistline. The seats are killer. I'm not a fan of the big iDrive, but I may get used to it. The important part is that it's going to be a great drivers car for sub $70K. I would push the younger generation to opt for the manual, because although the auto is faster, it doesn't matter in real life and you'll still get smoked by a Tesla. However, the auto will be easier on a track if you're going to push it hard on track days. We should all be applauding BMW for offering a RWD, 6MT, 453HP ICE sport coupe in 2023. |

As an F82 owner, this is hilarious, and I expect there to be many crank hub questions on the G8x forums. I really like the G87 and have been planning on ordering one, the price seems great, just deciding if this or a used Pcar is the way to go.

Dios mío...this is almost an insult. There is no pretty angle. Can't even look at the technical details because I could not be seen in such a thing.

It looks great. I'm glad reserved judgment with the leaks. What a pleasant surprise!
The wheel arches remind me of the E30 M3.

Kinda nailed the side profile, I like it! Taillights remain overdone and fussy, wish they had dialed back the rectangular inlets up front maybe 30% to integrate better with the rest of the shape. It wears red well, has that e30 M3 vibe about it. Not as awful as I though it would be.

It's a big bummer why they couldn't just reuse the F87 fenders, since they are clearly keen to clear the stock of the last gen parts (like the bonnet).

I just watched the design review with Jose, and I have to say the guy appears to me to be a very level headed mensch.
With Bangle and Van Hooydunk I always came away with the impression that they were going to take you in their design direction, and you were going to like it no matter what anyone said. They seemed so pretentious. But with Jose he knows he's going to get a lot of crap from those who don't have the same vision as he does, and he's cool with that. He appreciates that people are passionate about the marque, and he's not going to please everyone. He's just trying to design and create styles that exude fun that also incorporate functional elements that lead to improved performance. I was ready to blow some smoke up his rectum over the G42 until I had a chance to really inspect it with my own eyes. Now I am a tolerably happy Thundernight owner of his baby. Now I can't wait to get my peepers on a G87 to see if it really is as interesting at first blush as it appears to be. Oh, and I also liked how he made mention that he borrowed heavily from the 1 M when sculpting the car. For those of us blessed to own or have owned one at some time, it is fairly easy to see the resemblances. No doubt to me now why I have such a strong attraction to this reveal.
