Total Wine said they will let me exchange it. I liked Templeton before. Not sure if my taste has changed but the current bottle (bought 3 days ago) tasted weird. I tried it on two separate occasions by just taking small sips and didn’t taste like before. I have no idea what’s going on. What should I exchange it to in the $30 range?

Exchanged the Templeton Rye for a Scotch. Overall I prefer Scotch and this one is highly rated for about the same price.

Super close friend of mine’s father owns a high end tequila company (average retail is $80-90) and he took his first stab at whiskey. Of course I had to have a bottle.

Just picked up a bottle of Balvenie 12yr. Doublewood. Anyone else enjoy this whisky as well? Will be drinking this tonight!

It used to be my go to. Nothing wrong with it at all and I only changed my go to because Costco had a killer deal on the Balvenie 14 Carribean Cask.

That is one of my favorite cheaper 'everyday' single malts. If you enjoy it, give the Dalmore 12 a try - slightly more expensive but still good price point. Surprisingly, the Glenn Moray is also fantastic and at $29 a bottle, downright cheap.

I struggle with the Balvenie choices. They are all good, but don't really stand out to me, especially for the higher price point. At those prices, in my opinion, Macallan just blows them out of the water. The Dalmore I recommended above is also much better in my opinion and priced at around $60.

Very strong and accurate statements... Balvenie does indeed have some great choices such as the Carribean Cask and the 15 Sherry Oak however the remainder of the choices such as the doublewood 12 are not particular standouts nor unique. Macallan across the board is the highest quality (people tend to give them flack for their pricing but the quality of the product is always top notch). I also agree the Dalmore 12 is a fantastic choice.

If you are hitting that price point...

Macallan Double Cask 15... it's new and I just recently tried it and it blew me away.

Was actually eyeing that earlier. It doesn’t hit $150 after tax though so would need another cheaper bottle to go with it. Lots of options to hit $150. Hard to choose.

Got a favorite of mine today, The Dalmore 12. Also grabbed a new cheap Glenlivet that looked good.

The dalmore and macallan are some of my favorites. Cheap for you. Those are both $75 each at my location.

Still the best I've had to date is the Macallan Classic Cut. It's a cask strength at about 60% and is beyond fantastic. Runs about $120.

If you like peated whiskys then the Ardbeg is hard to beat, one of their top normal offerings

I took a bottle of Widow Jane 10 year old bourbon to my whiskey drinking friends place last week. Played some golf, bbq'd some great steaks and then sat around the fire with some nice Nicaraguan cigars and tasted this bourbon. It's a little on the pricy side, I paid $160 CAD and I grabbed it not having read anything about it, which is probably a good thing. I just read a few reviews and they are mixed at best and critical of the price ($69-79 USD).

Anyway, we really enjoyed it, it almost has a rum quality to it and we managed to drink about 1/2 the bottle.

I'm going to buy it later and try it out. I do like Macallan quite a bit. Ended up buy these as bday gifts for few long time buddies.

More important than any other critical review, right there.

Nothing has become more apparent to me since getting involved in the whisk(e)y hobby - tastes vary.

Yeah widow Jane seems to be a love or hate type thing. I've enjoyed the ones I have had but agree the price is a little steep.
