Thanks again for posting this. I've had this thread saved for over a year. Finally getting around to putting this in - couple of questions on the hitch installation...
1. When removing the rear bumper cover, does the diffuser have to come off separately? It does in your pix, but wondering if you were upgrading to the carbon diffuser at the same time? I'm staying stock...wondering if they can come out as one assembly... 2. The plastic guides at the top of the bumper look like they could be finicky and/or break. Any issues or tips in that area? |

pruettfan, did you ever build a trailer of your own? Small world ... I'm quoting a conversation between two other M2 owners with whom I've alternated driver and passenger seat time on tracks on opposite coasts!

Haven't done the trailer yet but have been tracking the M2. The M2 is a small world, went back to Thermal for Advanced M and in the hotel parking lot I looked up and saw a buddy from AZ who was there for the same course. He also has a LBB M2. I would like to do the trailer but space here is tight in the garage so not sure I can pull that part off.

Add a couple of 360-degree casters to the back frame rail on the trailer so you can tilt it up, roll it to a spot in the front or side of the garage and secure it tongue-up with hooks and chain (no bungee cords!). Of course, the box and the bed on the trailer should be empty, but all that stuff can stack next to it.

I saw a 1M with towing a trailer the other day. Couldn't get my phone out fast enough to take a picture. I was so confused!

http://www.leroyengineering.com/leroy_tire_trailer.php Cost wise I'm going to land around 750, picking it up in Ohio on my way to Mid-Ohio track day. How much fab work did yours take to make the trailer itself? I'm a bit afraid it's going to be more than I can chew myself. I'm handy and mechanical but to a point..... So sorry to be needy but I've been searching for this EXACT effing thread all winter. |

I was actually going to go this route, but I needed more capacity and the custom build was hella cheaper. Plus it was really enjoyable engineering it. But you can't go wrong with this one. On my way to Watkins Glen last weekend.

I came across this thread as I would like to add a trailer hitch to my 2018 M2. The image below is the alum trailer I use and have towed all over the country behind my 2112 PORSCHE Boxster Spyder auto x and traveling car. The all alum trailer weighs less than 300 lbs and hold four mounted wheels and tires and all the other "stuff" you need
The trailer is stock, the car is not ... well almost |

not sure iof the model of the trailer and can't get to it right now, but the make is Aluma . I have had it at least four years and as I said in an earlier post towed it all over the country behind the Spyder. Trails well at and above 70 mph ( we have great speed limits in Texas) . I would buy one again
As to the trailer hitch assembly. It is alum and mounted in the rear bumper behind the license plate. I made a hinged bracket for the plate. On either side of the hitch (female portion) I mounted threaded tow bar items. So I can screw in PORSCHE tow bar hooks to hook the trailer safety chains. When not in use the wiring is stowed in the hitch opening. The male portion of the hitch is unique and I got it from a company on the west coast. What is unique is it is all alum and has a key slot. Turning the key extends the locking pins, thus you can only remove the key when the pins are extended. A nice safety feature. I hope this answers the questions. Now back to mine as to the brand of hitch for the M2 and is it plug and play or is their some fabrication needed. |

The listing is for the 235i which is the same chassis. Fits perfectly. You have to take the bumper cover off to access mounting points. Very easy.

Sick.
Wondering if you guys that have towing experience with the M2 think it would be a good idea and/or possible to use this hitch to tow a larger trailer that fits one motorcycle (sport bike weighing probably 500 lbs)? |
