By the same rationale, I'd look much more favorably on a Japanese sports car built in a Japanese factory (e.g GR Corolla).
It doesn't dilute the brand... M cars have already been made on other continents. All of the X M products and Z4M were made in Spartanburg.
If you had the option of a BMW built in Mexico or one built in Germany, which would you pick ?

If you're saying it wouldn't matter to you that's great, but I'd opt for a German built one, or one built at a factory known for its quality control.

In regards to dilution of the brand, I'd argue having a dedicated factory churning out M products would definitely strengthen the badge.

If you disagree, thats totally cool. That's why we are all on this forum.
I for one couldn't care less.

It's not like we're asking SLP to put to design the car and redesign the S58. This is nothing more than a place of assembly, and the newest and most technologically advanced one at that.

Funny how many hang-ups some have over all kinds of things. I don't get it, it's such a waste of time fretting over something that if you take two seconds to think over you'll see is meaningless...

BMW, a global multi-billion dollar car manufacturer would not put their name, let alone sell cars that don't meet their standards. They spend millions on building new plants and time training and picking the best people to work in them. I have full faith in their ability to assemble a car anywhere in the world. Their design team however, that I have very little faith in.

I'm more worried about the final product

Verses where the car is built

I have high hopes

So true. It drives me nuts. Me driving with my wife. Wife sees BMW with M badges all over. Wife asks “Is that a real M?” Me…not even f ing close. Wash, rinse, repeat 20 times a day.

Kinda like that Maxima-esque front end.

I would think to myself "Dang, that front end looks so familiar, but I can't place my finger on it." Then I saw a Maxima in a parking lot - and BLAM! Now I can't unsee it.

Doesn't mean I hate it. I actually think the M2 looks mean. But that back end is less than appealing. And nothing from BMW M should ever evoke feelings of Maxima design.
For some…maybe:
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Mexico, because it's the latest plant with the most advanced equipment. The less a human touches the better.

Except for the big buck tooth front grill design, they hit it out of the park. Granted the looks have grown on many of us. But the pure fact that many still haven't warmed up to it yet is a testament to it being a pretty bold redesign that will be talked about for years to come. And not in a good way. But I digress with my .02 cents & soapbox rant over! LOL

Back to the G87 M2. This things looks killer...

We have to remember, the OG M2 had a chunky but too though. I would rather have that than a buck tooth front grill. But hey, that's just me...

Looks like another winner. G42 blows away the F22; looking forward to seeing how BMW M tops the F87.
