I actually thought of getting Yokohamas as an opportunity to try a tire brand I've never used before. Always have had Michelin or Continentals.
My post re: the Yokos, a member responded these come on the "optional 20/21” ///M G80/81/82/87 wheel package". That says something about BMW's faith in the tire. I look at it this way - Yoko wouldn't be in business 100+ years, used by supercar manufacturers, used in racing, etc... if they were the equivalent of a free ticket lottery scratch off win. At the level of performance of Michelin, Yoko, Continental, Pirelli summer tires, I think we're splitting performance hairs. Negligible differences. And then some criteria, one brand beats the others - no one tire is the best at all of them. What I notice about the Yokohamas after 1100 miles: They are quiet. Road noise is an absolute non-issue & there is no drone/odd tone coming from the tire. Street grip is fantastic in wet & dry. I have yet to be worried I will lose traction when driving spiritedly. I am still in break-in, but I am having fun & this tire hasn't taken anything away from the M2's fun factor. It's sticky enough that it is picking up & casting off road gravel which I constantly hear in my wheel well. It's getting old. LOL Don't care if they wear earlier than other brands. They came with the car, I paid for them, they do their job just fine. Contis will be going on when they're done. They're a great looking tire, too. I am no track monster & only competing against my own driving skills. One tire brand vs another is a nothing burger, so long as I know I am running high quality I am good. And all of those brands are high quality. No way I'd know the difference. (And neither do the instructors - on my F87, the pro I got assigned was pretty impressed with my car's grip & thought I was running Michelin PS4s. I said, "nope - Conti Sport Contact DWS.")

Also, I ended up getting the Pirellis and was honestly a little upset I didn’t get the Michelins (due to the notion of the “tire lottery” on this forum). However, I have experienced no issues with these tires. I would say don’t beat yourself up for getting a different brand. They’re already on your car, and they’re a consumable, so they will need to be replaced at some point anyway. Enjoy your car! |

To be honest I can’t believe BMW Performance Parts can’t be added as part of the build, surely would save hours or labour and cost. |

Michelin has won the sidewall game - best looking sidewalls in the business, in my opinion. That’d be the only reason to be disappointed to not get Michelin’s.
But regardless, there’s no way anyone can hit the limits of any of these tires street driving. And anyone tracking their car wouldn’t go with any of the tire options BMW offers except the Cup 2’s (albeit for 2-3 track days before they’re toast), so would have a dedicated second wheel/tire set for the track (along with camber plates, track alignment, and a rubber compound up to the task). |

When I buy the car outright, that will be a different matter, 8000 miles per year probably still be on the first set of tyres 😂 at that point I can make a decision for next tyre purchase. |

Since the tire issue seems to have been beaten to death, can we talk about oil?

In the US there is also BMW Performance Centre Delivery, get to test drive a version of your car on track, without destroying your tyres. In the UK we are lucky if they put a quarter tank of fuel in 🤦‍♂️ |

Got an old tuning box from previous M235i (OMG no words for how bad that car was) however they said if I sent the tuning box back, they would remap for G87 M2, with new engine leads for £199, resulting in extra 100hp and extra 100nm of torque.

OMG we are talking night/day difference it felt like my balls were cut off, so got the tuning box to compensate, however the car setup was wrong for the extra power so ended up removing it. |

The car does scrape over driveway humps/speed bumps, but it's just air deflectors under the car, not the front end. I think the port did a nice job on the height adjustment on my car & the alignment is perfect. Do it! You won't regret it!

From what I have been reading the Yokos are a pretty good tire. Probably better than the Pirellis. It seems all the new cars recently are getting the Yokos. My car is at VPC and I am sure I got the Yokos.

I should be right behind you brother. My car is at VPC right now, hoping to have it by next weekend. Its only 100 miles from VPC to the dealer...that being said I checked out Yokohamas website and they don't show those sizes as with the BMW star. Also they have a treadwear rating of 240 which is quite a bit lower than the Pirelli or the Mich. This rating is a little ambiguous as tire manafacturers differ in the way they come to these numbers. It could mean the Yokos are even more sticky than the Mich or the Pirelli.

Had the Yokos about a month and they seem to have better grip than the Pirellis I had on my M240I. Cornering nice, quiet and haven’t given them another thought.
