No it will not. It’s going to be built on the CLAR platform. But still we can expect many of the learnings from NK (and the iX) to show up in the iX5. I’m betting we won’t see efficienct packaging features like frunks, but we’ll get 800v architecture, long range battery, and weight optimizations.

If Jose Casas designed this one too, I have zero faith.

Interesting. Design looks exactly like nk.

I'd thought NK was supposed to be debuting in 2025. So we're getting an entirely new model on CLAR instead? I.e. the midsize electric SUV (iX5, iX, whatever it ends up being) won't be an NK model until what, closer to 2030? Was the supposed NK SUV solely the iX3 then? It feels weird that it would be mixed and matched like that if so, from a timing perspective. Hmm. Maybe I'll keep my iX then for the time being - all seems like positive changes, maybe there will still be good lease deals I suppose on the iX5 while I wait (again) for the NK version.

Edit to add: I'm just trying to get clarity on model designations - I'm aware this iX5 is not NK, I'm just moreso wondering out loud why that is. I guess it's simpler to essentially mold the iX into a new model on an existing platform.

"NK" (colloquial) or NCAR (official), not "NC", or you'll sound like those Americans who say "wagon" instead of "Touring".

I've already said this twice just in this thread alone, never mind my own thread where I explained this over a year ago:

should be much easier to fish the kittens out when I'm charging outside on a warm day and they crawl inside to take advantage of the circulation... it was PITA to get them out of my i4.

Same could have been said with the M3, M5, 5-series?

Not really. I don’t think anyone ever really complained about the X5, overall it was generally accepted from the get go. The E90 M3 was the “uglier” 4-door sibling to the E92 M3. The E60 5er/M5 was highly criticized for its design, saved by the V10. Only recently everyone is starting to appreciate it. And the current 5er, also hit/miss with design.

We won’t know until BMW reveals the next-gen X5 but here’s hoping they don’t get too creative for their own good.

Then the X5 might be overdue for a design flop.

No - the iX was always going to be a one-off, whereas any kind of X5 is an enduring platform.

I may come back to BMW based on this.

I really loved my G05 but switched to the iX3.

Any decent bigger SUV won’t be out for a while so when my iX3 ends, I’ll get a two year lease on the Macan and decide after that whether to return to the fold or maybe try the Cayenne EV.

Same deal as current models i7/i5/i4. Long hood where the engine goes in the combustion model, but no front trunk in the EV version. Bad packaging is what you get in a shared platform car.

After picking up our ‘24 Cayenne Turbo eHybrid I cannot understand the need to have a fully electric SUV. The vehicle feels like perfection. It has really revived our appreciation for having a thrilling driving experience. We couldn’t believe how much excitement that V8 creates. We truly missed it.

EVs are good, but they can’t beat the practicality of a Hybrid that gives you enough electric range for your daily commute with a heart pounding V8 growling underneath for when passion calls for it.

Very much looking forward to the new X5M with the hybrid platform as soon as BMW comes to its senses and decides to gives us back AC control buttons, at a minimum.

Have you been in the M5 thread? The 2024 Cayenne Turbo e-hybrid has what, 5700 pound curb weight? The M5 has a curb weight at about 5400 and everyone is complaining. Regardless of hybrid setup, there's always going to be the complaint of weight but no one wants a full EV setup so BMW is damned if they do, damned if they don't.

People have to accept that moving forward, full ICE should not be expected - you have to except one or the other.
