I've heard many people say the g87 manual trans isn't that good. Coming from a 3rd gen Toyota Tacoma manual, the BMW transmission feels pretty nice to me. The entire vehicle feels like a fighter jet.
going from a Jeep rubicon to a g87 M2 will feel like night and day. |

I went from a G80 comp RWD, G82 Xdrive then a G87 manual.
They are all good. Everyone says there is a huge difference between them. I think they are very similar. Steering on the M2 feels lighter in weight and more hyper sensitive in inputs of center, almost to much. Maybe it's factory alignment on my car.. Suspension feels the stiffest. |

You have direct paddle override or drop into manual. With paddle override it will revert to auto. When dropping into manual mode, you shift and can bounce off the rev limiter just like a manual. In manual mode the ZF8 will not shift for you unless you lug the engine and it will downshift to protect the engine.

I think the comps had a bit more power its hard to say because they were both auto and I did not reach break in service yet. I don't think it's a huge difference though between them.

I have a ZF8 X5 now that I'm keeping alongside my G87. It's a kickass transmission but you can't call clicking a button "shifting". Like I've said before, I'm no "manual vs auto" guy, they're both awesome but at the same time they are nothing like each other.

The correct answer is Jeep AND G87.
