At the time of their demise, Hummer arguably was a more valuable brand in the US than Buick, GMC, or Cadillac. But GM sacrificed it to the Obama administration to get taxpayer money to move towards their agenda vehicles. It's a shame because Hummer could have been a great outlet for efficient and reliable diesels, possibly paired with hybrid tech. But the identity politics starting then were just too strong, sadly.
I live out in a rural area where people are normal and pickups are what people drive, so I never had any local hassle about it. But the few times I took it up to DC back in the 2010's I was always nervous it would get keyed or lit on fire (because you know, the environment...). Thankfully most of the virtue signaling is over some 15 years later.

I wanted to bring up that old thread just to show how stupid the animosity got.

My point is, it got people talking, and that was probably tesla's goal. Whether people hate it, like it, or love it, they were talking. Now, around here, close to silicon valley, there are so many on the road that no one even seems to care anymore. Regardless, it was the most polarizing vehicle in recent memory when it came out, and it has served it's purpose to tesla.
But isn't that what a Halo vehicle is supposed to do, bring attention to the Brand?

Yup, and it did exactly that. In addition, it keeps the brand relevant, even if it looks like a cross between a refrigerator and dumpster on wheels.

That is actually the best description I've heard thus far.

This is where people get mixed up though. Attention and discussion of a brand does you zero good if it isn't a) positive and b) converting into sales. Tesla sales are way down. People may be talking about them, but it's just talk, not anything that's being monetized. Companies don't exist to be talked about, they exist to be monetized.

That's a good point. However, Tesla stock was up this past year. Time will tell what 2025 brings for them.

CyberTruck has outsold every other EV combined (excluding Teslas) in Q3 - how is that not being monetized?! These were all $100k + vehicles.

Any other automaker would be hailed as remarkable if they had this type of success. Unfortunately ppl now have Elon derangement syndrome bec of his politics. If you actually drive the CT, it’s pretty good while the styling is loved by many who are not “car people.”

The refreshed Model Y is around the corner.

Tesla is in great position to continue its dominance in EV segment.

I see more Cybertrucks in a day than Rivians in a month.

Will be interesting to see what happens when Trump wants to hinder EV's by likely removing the tax incentives / rebates and "drill baby drill" while Elon fights to keep it going.

Not sure why you think Elon "fights to keep it going." He's been pretty vocal against EV tax credits for buyers.

If most new cars are Iphones (not a compliment) - the Cybertruck is a cheap Metro Andriod phone with a 5 year old processor and terrible build quality.

Expensive disposable garbage.

Actually, the correct comparison would be: if the Cybertruck is a cheap Metro Andriod phone, most new cars would be non-smart Nokia phone with battery that can last a week (not a compliment for both, but at least you got a smartphone ).

Correct, Tesla is making, on average, about $9K per vehicle, while other manufacturers are barely making anything on those EVs. So, Tesla will benefit from less competition, unless Chinese imports are allowed in the US (which is highly unlikely).

Don't use your Cyber Truck as a bomb, the cargo bay with the lid closed is the weak link.

Little bit of brackish water will take care of that.
