Well, i'm new here, so sorry if I got on the wrong foot with some, but it's nice to see some interesting views, which apparently are so opposite on the same thing. May be I didn't post some question correctly and was misunderstood by some. Either way, i'll reply to the bullshitters that are being quoted as if what they are saying is actually valid.
First, some dude (greeny?) starts badmouthing you just because he's got a more expensive car!! Damn, how insecure can you be?! You, with your M6 and S5 and whatever else you list so proudly in your signature. I happen to actually really enjoy my car! My poor 320d gets 50mpg and will keep up with your average 330i for a remap that costs 400 euros (coming this December, and getting 295lb/ft of torque). So I pay less for car and much less for fuel, and still manage to have a reasonably quick car. Who is hating now? What's next? May be now you want to tell me about your classy taste in style, after buying a 6 series (and a vert!!!)? Quote:

The mods can of course close the thread if they think it sucks and offensive (I won't be offended), but at least I got to quickly see who the real jerks are on E90post.

Prove you are an adult would be nice. I like the S5 for what it is. A classy auto with a good power band.

I went from an 99 M3 to a 2001 S4 back to a 07 335 and I like the BMW better. Out of the box...BMW has more performace and that is what I like. The car feels more refined IMHOP.

The best way to describe the S5 is that it's got the looks to match the M3 but a performance which is more in line with the 335i. Both are beautiful looking cars but someone described it best when they said that the S5 was a more masculine looking design while the 335i is a more feminine looking design, both cars are equally appealing but in different ways and to different people.

Everybody on this message board or any Audi mesage board are car enthusiasts. Whether it's Audi, BMW, Ferrari or Aston martin, we will lust after a great looking car. If you have the means you buy it, if not you wait.
Lighten up and enjoy the competition between the car manufacturers. The enthusiasts are the winners here.

What's wrong with liking the S5? You don't have to remain as a brand loyalist (don't read too much into my username...it was a mistake). I think it's an awesome car, just a bit too expensive for what you get. If I were to be given either car for free and had to pic just one, I think I'd have a pretty tough time deciding tbh. It's a freakin' sweet car, and then there's always that "the grass is greener on the other side" thing goin on.
The original post was kinda stupid. You're saying that we shouldn't like other cars that may in fact be superior? Are we supposed to be tied to one brand? I still personally favor BMW in general by quite a bit over the competition (first and foremost for the driving experience), but that doesn't mean that I don't occasionally drool over an R8 and whatnot.

+1.
However, I won't deny the aggressive, sorta masculine front end of the S5, but the back is a little feminine if you ask me.

Like some here, I am a car enthusiasts....not a fanboy.
I personally think the S5 looks better than the 335i, but I don't think the 335i is ugly. It's like picking over two hot chicks....you don't lose. |

Bimmer Loyalist,
I think it's more a case of where your priorities lay, so you are after performance at a price and the best driver's car with regardless to involvement instead of ultimate efficiency than I would wholeheartedly agree that the S5 is over priced. But if you want an efficient handling car which is easy to drive near and at the limit with a classy design (outside and inside) with a quality of fit and finish which either BMW or Mercedes would kill to have and an engine noise that is better than any 6 cylinder then the S5 is value for money. Like I said above it's all down to what you class as important to you. |

I do love the way the S5 looks, but I love the way my BMW drives.. I choose this car over all the others because of that reason. I admire adui's but would never choose it over a BMW.

That too was a big factor. I didn't dislike the Audi at speeds above 45-ish, but below was a bit too light for me. It was also slightly more vague...not enough rim-twitching for me.

Guys, Audi don't also get it right you know. The Q7 isn't the best looking SUV around, that title falls to either the new X5 or Touareg in my opinion, but to be fair they get it right more than wrong, cars like the A5, TT (Mk1 & Mk2), A4, A8 and of course the best looking car currently on sale the R8.
As for BMW their mistakes have been not so much their design but their timing, they were out to soon for the public, the 7 series, 6 series and 1 series to name examples. The car they have got right are the 3 series in all forms, the X5 and the Z4. Bobbo's comments are point on 'Look wise BMW strives to be cutting edge but Audi executes better.' |

I'm an multi-BMW owner, but I'm also an Audi fan. I owned a late 80's 4000cs Quattro -- that was a great car for its time. Very nice engine and to this day the smoothest 5 speed I've ever driven.
The looks of the S5 don't appeal to me. When I saw one on the road my first thought was Hyundai Tiberon. Then I realized, oh, its an Audi. My next thought was that I really don't care for the look of the daytime running lights. Its also a surprisingly big car in person. I am selling my 335, but Audi doesn't make a car today that I'd seriously consider buying to replace it. |

I saw a video, don't remember if it's on google or youtube, or a audi S5 vs bmw 335i e92. The 335i, the fact that it had less hp and only a rear wheel drive, beat the Audi s5 on the track.
The 335i, I believe is a more oval all better car. It's a great looking car. GREAT torqe. Light, and just handles EXCELLENT. I believe the 335i is a well built car that has dominated many stronger cars. 335i has power to back up, and it doesn't shrivle down. The Audi S5, i must admit is a very good looking car. I haven't had the opportunity to sit in one, but just look at the cars online and around town. They are really good looking, VERY SEXY. But the bmw sport cars, will, i believe, always be that bad boy car. You could have a elegant s5. Powerfull S5, 4 wheel drive S5, LED S5... But in the end, there's always that bmw bad boy that will shit on you on the track or locar street race. when u do the math, the bmw is a better buy. You get great over all performance, and to top it off you get 50,000 miles of maintanace service. Oil change, brakes, etc... That alone i think is great. I'm not putting down the S5. its a great car. But for me, bmw 335i because it feels like a bad ass car, and i think it suites me. if i were to see a S5 next to me... I would think, nice... But when the light turns green... i'm still in my bimmer.
