But we must believe the sky is falling and that EVs will burn everything down. This is similar but a flip side to the Green left that says the world is ending. It’s just mindless outrage porn for the uneducated. |

EVs are dumb. Full stop. It should be a choice if you want to buy one - but the governments of the world are trying to force it on the populace. |

Toyota would rather buy credits than waste money on EV's.

I love the sky is falling fuel vapor bomb clouds. This ranks right up there with the Nazi Zyklon B guy. You are welcome to post data showing fire parity. I have no problem correcting my views over facts. All of the reports I see show ICE as significantly more likely to catch fire. https://www.autoweek.com/news/a44938...cle-car-fires/ https://www.driving.co.uk/car-clinic...d-diesel-cars/ |

To be fair - there were fires at factories, which is concerning. That and the fact that EVs batteries do let off a LOT of nasty vapors when burned. It’s not one or the other - it’s true, and it’s a problem. Do ice cars have issues, sure but this is about EVs. |

We'll call that debt a stupid tax': Florida woman told Dave Ramsey of husband's 'horrible' choice to buy an EV for $72K — and falling gas prices mean charging it might cost more than fuel
March 1, 2024 On an episode of “The Ramsey Show,” she described how her husband went from a fully paid-off modest car to an expensive electric vehicle (EV) that has changed their financial situation. Dave Ramsey couldn’t believe how expensive the car was. “$72,000 for a Kia?!” he gasped. Ashley also said they still owed $62,000 on the auto loan and the dealership only offered $40,000 to buy the car back. In other words, the car has negative equity. Meanwhile, electric vehicles have lost value faster than traditional used cars, according to analysis from iSeeCars.com. Used EVs lost 33.7% of their value, on average, between October 2022 and October 2023. Auto loans and sinking car values are prominent trends. American consumers have raked up $1.61 trillion in auto loan debt as of the fourth quarter of 2023, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Ramsey recommended Ashely and her husband try to sell the car for $50,000. This would leave $12,000 in negative equity on the auto loan that they must cover. He also suggested taking out a personal loan to cover the rest. https://moneywise.com/loans/auto-loa...uys-72k-kia-ev I suspect this story is too common and having a government incentivising this is not good. Lets look at the history of government getting involved in the private sector. Housing market: Fanny and Freddie Mac, Fedlining, Derivativies. 2008 financial crisis Medical sector: Affordable Care Act. Medical inflation now highest in history. Student loans: Cost of college education skyrockets I could go on but to me the biggest head wind the EV industry faces is not range anxiety and charging stations, it's government intervention. The EV Pullback Is Emblematic Of A Greater Problem: Value
https://carbuzz.com/features/the-ev-...-problem-value let's ignore the high initial pricing, the weak infrastructure, the costly repairs, and the lack of enthusiast engagement typical of (most) EVs. Assuming that there are solutions to all these issues (and there are), I still can't see myself spending dozens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on a car that nobody will want to buy from me when I'm finished with it. I can swallow losing a few hundred bucks on an iPhone every year, but can I deal with losing five figures on a car I bought just 12-36 months ago? Absolutely f****** not. |

Chinese Lithium Battery Chief Urges Beijing to Fix Overcapacity
March 4, 2024 The chairman of Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt said over-investment in the industry had led to “severe overcapacity” and caused “significant declines” in industry utilisation The chairman of Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt has urged Chinese authorities to adopt measures to tackle overcapacity in the lithium battery material industry. China bans imports of used lithium batteries and black mass, the shredded material which comes from used batteries, which can include lithium, cobalt and nickel. These metals can then be extracted and used to make new batteries. https://www.asiafinancial.com/chines...x-overcapacity If companies are going to make these environmental time bombs they should be forced to accept the dead batteries back. |
