I see the "Australia Tax" is in full force. Nudging $100K for one. Amazing.

I find it odd that BMW chose to let Toyota go first with the big power.

Buy the M40i hasn't been released (in the US) yet. Of course neither has the Zupra.

Then why are there currently 191 Z4 M40i available in the US on Cars.com?

In the linked article. Sounds like the 30i was released first. Makes sense that both are out now since the article was probably written months ago.

No it isn't. A Miata is. But a GT86 is a hot mess of bad steering, cheap interior and a huge torque dip at 4,500 rpm that Subie and Toyota refuse to address. It also likes to lean itself out under track use because of the Toyota developed dual mode injection.

It should be a great car, but I've extensively driven both versions both before and after LCI and would take an ND Miata over one every time.

Sure it has (M40i), my local dealer has two of them. Saw this one last night, the paint is different for sure. The price on the thing is outrageous though, the sticker was like $75k. I think these Z4s are going to see some serious, serious depreciation after 2-3 years.

Add in the chatter of the Boxster/Cayman going back to six cylinder power for the base and S model and the fat lady is already singing for yet another BMW Z4.

When there's so much area between a Miata and a Boxster, I never understand why BMW keeps trying to attack the Boxster head on with pricing. Just aim for the middle like you did with the Z3 and first Z4. Oh, and stop making it heavier and larger.

There will eventually be some big lease cash and very friendly residuals. It will be a replay of the lease deals on the Z4 35is dealers couldn't move.

Now they also have to compete with essentially themselves. A 6-cylinder Supra that starts only a couple hundred dollars from their 4-cylinder Z4 msrp.

“The new Supra produced at the Magna Steyr, Graz Plant in Austria is the first product in a comprehensive collaboration with BMW

So is there a second product coming?

Yup, definitely getting one now. It will be fun to toss it around the roads in Northern Georgia.

The more I learn of the Supra and Z4, the more I think the Supra is the clear winner of the pair by far. Now maybe just hope for a 6MT.

Just wish they would make a version that doesn't look so hotwheels or cartoonish. It's looks are polarizing and I somehow don't think it will age well. Then again I'm likely not the intended target market.

Toyota Is Thinking About A Manual Supra But Doesn’t Seem Sold On The Idea

Quote:
Even before the latest-generation Toyota Supra premiered, there has been hopeful talk that a six-speed manual would soon be offered alongside the current eight-speed automatic.

Hopes were heightened last week following confirmation that the entry-level BMW Z4 sDrive20i in Europe with which the Supra shares its underpinnings will come standard with a manual.

While BMW has yet to say whether or not the six-cylinder variants of the Z4 could also get a stick shift, Automobile reached out to Toyota to see whether the release of a manual Z4 also means that a manual Supra is on the agenda.

“We may have heard a time or two (or more) that there’s a desire for a manual transmission in the Supra,” a Toyota spokesperson said. “However, we’re confident in the performance of the current setup . . . We feel it’s the optimal combination for the U.S. market at this time and we’re anxious for customers to drive the new Supra and experience it for themselves. We’ll be sure to check back into the conversation at that time and see what people have to say.”

Evidently, Toyota is thinking about offering the new Supra with a manual transmission but it doesn’t seem sold on the idea of such a model, at least not in the United States. We imagine that if the Supra does get a six-speed option, this transmission option would initially be rolled out to select markets, perhaps including Japan where Toyota knows the Supra has a strong cult following among hardcore driving enthusiasts.

LOL - not sure what you are talking about.

BRZ has amazing steering - direct, quick, consistent and just heavy enough.
I have owned BRZ since 2015 and also have 2018 M3 Comp - BRZ has by far the better steering and closest to what the BMW hydraulic setups were just not as heavy.
The interior of the BRZ is great as well - seating position, seats, steering wheel, shifter, leg room, and visibility. There are ZERO sports cars that can match it.

Handling is incredible- it stays flat in turns and at high speeds, there is no lift.
With stock tires - its not setup for max grip, put a decent set and your laptimes will dramatically improve!
Miata is MUCH smaller inside, i personally cant have a normal seating position and im 5‘11. its also more softly sprung and has very loose steering. I‘m not a fan of it.
