Quite frankly my '10 NC Miata had a better feeling shifter. But it was dealing with a fraction of the torque too. And what I have im quite happy with. You just gotta try it for yourself and decide really. |

But it could be worse, we could be picking lesser cars due to budget like my my brother in-law. He is kinda cheap and ended up with a GTS Cayman... we call him Gramps (he's in his 40's) ONLY cayman I can stomach is the GT4. Color me weird, but I am on the waitlist for the GT3. The list is long and distinguished... like my johnson.

It feels a bit silly to me how many 'heavy pig' comments the G87 is getting considering it's 'only' 330 lbs heavier than the F87. I realize that's a chunk of weight, but considering the larger footprint and the additional power it seems fairly in line with what would be expected. Especially for those who know that there's low hanging fruit in swapping the wheels/battery for lighter, more expensive options.

It's heavy, but "heavy pig" implies a level of extravagence/incompetence that I think is unfair. BMW is a luxury brand, you aren't gonna get a "rollcage and nothing else" car from them. They won't remove the sound deadening or the tech.
Weight is only a problem if it's a problem. I'm not seeing evidence of that yet. The MPG is tolerable, it seems to corner great, it seems to be fast. Sure, if you track it, that weight is gonna eat up tires and brakes. But let's be real here. This is a vanilla M, not a CSL, and the entry model to boot. It's not REALLY intended to be heavily tracked as-is. We all know this, deep down. The good news is that if you want to mod it for the track, it looks VERY amenable to that. Easy weight cutting all over, the S58 will probably tune to north of 500 HP. Please don't let what it ISN'T blind you to what it IS, or what it CAN BE. |

One thing is for sure…going by the number of posts on here already-the M2 is THE Mcar most owners/potential owners feel passionate about & its arrival has been much anticipated indeed. Cant wait till the aftermarket ramps up & the mods begin & the cars full potential is unleashed. That & the CS/CSL/whatever “special editions” when they arrive.

Ideally I prefer a flat torque curve that starts around 1800rpm and holds all the way above 5000 rpm. Now I understand this isn’t BMW’s style of tuning, but I am taking it that if the torque curve is raised then the lower end torque will also get a lift. A heavier new M2 with the same peak torque but less lower end grunt than previous gen M2 just doesn’t seem like a sensible tuning choice. |

She has an M2C and she lives 5 minutes away.... why wouldn't I drive it? Its a fun car and frankly I find it weird that you find that weird? Do your in-laws not like u? Wait a second... does your husband give his mother more attention than he gives u? I honestly don't care about what we are talking about enough to go searching for it in the previous pages. But, I will happily take a nap. lets get back to the new car they just launched _

Seriously! I need to get on it! My allocation is VERY likely coming in at the end of the month. Got to decide if I want it or not... then have to decide if I am willing to wait for the carbon package. Decisions! Buddy of mine picked up a used GT4 a while back. We are looking at purchasing a hangar (a small one) at the local airport. kicking around the idea of starting a small car owners club. 3 of us would each kick in 135-165k and split a GT4, emira... (fill in the blank) on 3rd. They dont want the M2 and that is throwing a small wrench in to my plans

But really, it comes down car nerds call "power under curve." Peak HP or peak torque is misleading. To show why, let's examine your next sentence: "A heavier new M2 with the same peak torque but less lower end grunt than previous gen M2 just doesn’t seem like a sensible tuning choice." And yet, a new M2 with more weight and the same torque accelerates just as fast, if not faster, than the old M2. How can that be? Because performance doesn't come from peak torque, it comes from total power under the curve. [Edit: I had a bunch of stuff about HP math and physics and boost, but nah, I'm not really an expert here. So I'd rather not put my foot in my mouth.] ...ANYWAY, I'd say don't get overly fixated on peak torque, it can be misleading. Observed performance is what matters, and the S58 is a known BEAST. Like, I'm really surprised they gave us the S58 rather than another generation of S55. So nice! So, the hardware is good. If BMW has in fact detuned the software parameters a bit too much, that's actually great! That's like, one of the easiest things to fix. |

Overall it seems the car is reviewed as ‘good, but not great’. It seems to be a refinement on the F87 (in terms of engine, comfort and handling compliance) and in terms of cars in it’s class, it’s one of the best. But, it has fallen back in other areas compared to F87 (looks (subjective), weight, ZF, steering feel etc).
Judging by BMW’s latest releases, this is actually quite good. But, it could easily be better, and it’s a shame it’s not. I’ll eagerly await the CS variant but as things stand I can see my next car being Porsche or Lotus (sorry team!) |

Waiting for a CS, if that happens, may not address weight concerns. The F87 M2 CS is 3,417 lbs, almost exactly the same as the M2C. Yes I know there were upgrades in the CS but still, just sayin.

I know man, but I gotta have some hope right . The M2/M3/M4 have all been criticised for weight and steering feel. I’m just holding out hope that at some point, they’ll listen to the criticism and act on it. Just imagine if they added a hydraulic steering rack to the CS, ran a limited run of the DCT (Supra GRMN Will apparently have it)/improve the manual, and it dropped 100kg .

I doubt harris will like it very much considering he prefers the 1m to the f87 for its raw/edginess. Also, i believe he sold his cs a while back.
