So difficult situation, and the Monday morning quarterbacks will have a field day. Solo officer on the side of the road trying to keep the situation calm. I hate to be too critical buy I likely would've escalated to cuffs/taser sooner as it was pretty clear the guy wasn't going to become more cooperative after the first minute or so.

Agree, then he would still be alive..the crazy then ran into road and killed himself after crashing down the bank.

Fargo ND officer was shot and killed few days ago and they are escorting him through my town tomorrow morning on the way to my hometown for his funeral. Unfortunately I will be heading out of town for the funeral, but I'll be able to catch his escort in the morning. Far too young, just swore into the Fargo PD in April. I learned he is the first cousin of a good friend of mine. He was also with the Field Artillery unit that deployed with me this last go around and I recall seeing his name and wondering if he was related to my buddy.

I can already feel the waterworks and I didn't even know him. It doesn't seem to matter if I know them or not, anytime a service member, officer, first responder... any selfless service member passes it always causes it to rain down my face.

Sometimes shit just goes sideways. I feel bad for the driver of the car that hit the guy and I hope the copper doesn't have a rough ride because of the outcome.

Could be both I guess.

On one hand theres always a part of society that will only look for the negative. Doesn't matter what it is.

But on the other hand someone might see these and get inspired to pursue a law enforcement career

Range is pretty irrelevant when the car is sitting with all the electronics running. Range should be changed to hours of operation, which probably isn't many.

It would be cool in an idealistic world. The reality is on a busy department, the vehicles run all day long and aren’t shut off at all during the shift (because the electronics need to run constantly). It is my opinion that an EV cannot handle the tasks. I see how we run our line vehicles and an EV wouldn’t last more than a couple of hours. We run the A/C all shift unless it’s cold at night, which then transitions to running the heater all night. When my shift is over, my partner takes the car for his shift. If I work a 16 hour shift and then my partner grabs the car and works a 10-16 hour shift, only for me to come back to work and take the car again, how on earth is an EV supposed ro handle that kind of abuse?!?!

See, this is why the public has such issues with PDs: you can't think OUTSIDE the box.

On last Friday's episode of "On Patrol Live" (reboot of Live PD), there were more than the normal number of drivers who pulled over on the left shoulder...or even worse in the center turn "suicide" lane. Only one officer made the stopped car move to the right shoulder, and I was thinking all along that something bad was going to happen on "live" camera. Sure enough, a car swerved into the suicide lane, and the officer had to jump out of the way to avoid being run over.

My question is whether these officers are becoming careless because of the camera crew in tow, and why they can't/don't write them tickets for endangering the officers by not pulling over on the right shoulder?????

It could be just how they do things in that state/county/city. We aren’t all trained the same way (…e.g….approaching from the passenger side versus the driver side, not detaining in the back seat during a vehicle search, etc.). Some things I’ve seen make me cringe, but thousands of agencies do things thousands of ways.
