Disappointed by the production version. Price/performance is not great. Visually, the matte gray looks nice.

Maybe if they didn't call it a supra I wouldn't be as disappointed?

Is there something that I missed? This car had prototypes running about the 'ring for years yet specs are underwhelming given that this thing was in development for years. Maybe seat time will change that opinion?

I bet the Dyno numbers( non biased numbers) come in closer to 300 then 310 maybe even less then 300. One doesn't see factory hp claims lowballed that much, as far as I can remember anyway.

Well, aside from the last Supra, lol.
I can't imagine anything Toyota could have done to lose 50hp when compared to the Z4, but if they did, it's great to know a tune and bolt-ons get you 400whp. The BMW B58 equipped cars seems to dyno in the 290s, fwiw.

The US maybe B58 only. Toyota Europe and Japan have already announced the 4 cylinder Supra.

It will be interesting to see if Toyota's involvement improves the BMW or BMW's involvement tarnishes the Toyota reputation for reliability.

LOL. People are mad because it doesn't have a 2JZ-GTE as if that was ever on the table.

I like it and would totally consider getting one for my son if he were in high school (or born yet). Can't think of many other $50K sports cars I'd take over it besides an M2 which is a stretch.

Right, but I think his point is that, if a manual does come, it will likely be for the four cylinder model since that combination (B48TU + 6MT) already exists in the new G20 320i. By contrast, there is no B58TU + 6MT combination planned.

Two other more exciting possibilities would be an S55 or S58 powered model with an MT since, again, those combinations either exist today (F8x M4, F87 M2) or will exist "soon" (G82 M4, likely G8x M2).

Two versions of the 4 cylinder. Rumor has the US getting the higher output version as a base model.

I understood what he meant. I'm just going by what our insider has hinted about US being I6 only and the ToyotaUSA email were they did say a MT is coming.

We'll just all have to wait and see.

I absolutely love the new Supra. The Mk4 was 50k with 320hp and a mid 4 second 0-60 time. Everyone complaining about the figures when it resembles the old car perfectly.. Tbh I think a bone stock 98 looks decent but looks a lot better with aftermarket parts. Same with this guy, found a render with some Work Meisters, yellows headlights and a big wang.

Just wait until places like RealSt and Titan Motorsports get ahold of this thing. It will be a monster.

Toyotas verified Facebook account said that the 4 cylinder optioned car will come ready from factory for a 2jz swap, they know what they are doing. CEO of Toyota used to race an mk4, I doubt he'd let the Supra name be laughed at.

Only time will tell.

God I hope Mazda sacks up and answers back with a new sports car. This replacement seems safe when it comes to design as it will guarantee sales and Toyota gets its top-tier sports car while the GT86 is filling that Celica/MR2 void.

For Japan

Official specs give SZ, SZ-R and RZ as the 3 versions.

SZ is the 4-cylinder twin-scroll turbo with 197 hp
SZ-R is the 4-cylinder twin scroll turbo with 258 hp
RZ is the 6-cylinder twin scroll turbo with 340 hp

We know that Dyno numbers can vary quite a bit but this site seems like a good place to pull numbers. They have the 2JZ laying down about 25+ hp less then the advertised number which puts bhp higher then advertised but not a bunch more. That's at the wheels of course compared to bhp but still a good piece less then the 5 hp drop from the advertised you predict. We'll know for sure when they're strapped down and spun up.

Because nothing screams neutral handling like 600lbs of iron sitting over the front axle? Powerful, they were. Light, they were not.

Objectively a significantly better looking car than the MKIV.
Car community: "We don't get any more small, powerful, rwd Japanese performance cars and it's bs"
Supra comes out: "We hate this thing that is exactly what we asked for!!"

To be fair, I don't think Supra fans were looking for faultless BMW engine reliability when they asked for a sporty coupe.

It sounds like the tune is different (BMW claims 50 more hp than toyota for the i6, and BMW is not one to exaggerate power claims, I'm guessing the supra will be highly tuneable). I think everyone has heard how terrible bmw's steering has become, from what I can tell Toyota has a different steering setup that got rave reviews in pre production cars, I'd guess suspension is also different. It's MUCH better looking than the bmw (I don't have the new Z4, but the Supra is far prettier, especially the rear end).
Uptake for manual transmissions in the general public is very, very low, but it's higher in sports cars. It's at about 20%-25% in Porsche 911s. I personally won't buy an ICE car without a manual. Heck, I was even relatively bored with a Lamborghini I rented without a manual.

In terms of looks, I like the rear but the front looks odd to me.

I actually don't like it much. A 50k Toyota with BMW maintenance? The nose is too pointed and the door chasing / fake intake is stupid. It looks like they tried to merge the Z4 and a Lexus RC/IS 350 Fsport which costs less & has 311 HP.

You forgot one.

Jalopnik

https://jalopnik.com/the-2020-toyota...oes-1831719119

Car looks bad ass but it has sportline steering wheel rather than m sport. (Though airbag looks like m sport). Maybe it fits better with the design language but would benefit from being thicker. Door sill label says BMW and has a BMW VIN

I don't care what kind of engine or transmission it has, the interior, or how much it costs...if they build this, I'm buying it.

It's a shame reality can be a bitch sometimes. Until then, the FD RX-7 will remain the best looking car to ever come out of Japan.
