Great info and thanks. Can you explain a bit more about the front bumper being more refined than expected. Ever since we've seen the photos of the bumpers, they've also seen very un-M - boxy, etc.

Thanks for all of the info you were able to provide in this thread. The details sound very promising I’m actually really surprised BMW would let anyone take pics at a showing like that. The only thing i am disappointed about is that the car won’t be getting a different headlight design.I was hoping for something with BMW signature corona headlights.

  • Did you see anything to indicate the grilles have active aero?
  • Is the center lower half of the bumper painted body color or just black?
  • Can you describe the air vents on the fenders just behind the front wheels; is it similar to the M3/4?
  • Was there a splitter on the front bumper?
  • Regarding the 'side skirts', did it look like it was just for styling or did you see an integrated air scoop in it?

It's kind of hard to explain, but it just looks a lot smoother and not as "rough around the edges" as you'd think, especially seeing it installed on the car and with headlights. Looks a lot better with the paint as well

Of course! Not going to explain it all but it wasn't a showing 😁
And agreed about the headlights also; I was expecting them to be completely different as well. They look very good though as it is

Not sure about the active aero, probably would need to look closer to see that.

Bottom center of the front bumper was gloss black.

Unfortunately didn't see the front fenders behind the front wheels. Pics were mainly the front end, that side skirt area towards the back, and the wheels.

No splitter on the front.

No air scoop on the side skirt, it was designed so that the contouring of the rear quarter panel was seamless as a transition from side skirt to metal panel. Very hard to describe honestly but I hope this gives a better idea.

Honestly kind of disappointed, as I was told the lights would be completely different, but it looks good nevertheless. Laser lights are more than likely coming as an option.

Front bumper looks wayyyy more elegant than the spy pics from China. Bottom side vents stick out very far and make the front end look very aggressive. The grill doesn't stick out as far as we have seen; was more of a relaxed shape rather than a cookie cut shape.

The side skirts are body colored and have an interesting shape behind the doors that points upwards and attaches to the rear quarter. Looks good and also interesting. Kind of hard to explain, but it was a relief seeing it body colored. It seems kind of like a piece that will eventually be an M performance part. Can't say I've seen an M car with a side skirt design like this before though.

Carbon buckets inside.
Thanks for the info 👍

And the back end……continues to look melted and distorted. The F87 was art. This is another BMW product where you have to squint really hard to find a way to kind of sort of like it. No thanks.

The F87 was indeed art and elegance. The G87 is pure "no-prisoners" anger on the racetrack. DTM racecar this time around

Did the front bumper still have the parking sensors attached separately like we've seen on prototypes (I.e., not integrated into the bumper)? If so, did they stick out to you in pictures or were they not noticeable? I assume they were also gloss black?

From what I can recall, yeah they were separate like we've seen before. Black and not really integrated into the body colored portion of the bumper, just a separate piece

FWIW, those "leaked" images from China were exactly what I said they were; a body kit fabricator's attempt at making G87 inspired components for other models. Once you've seen the real thing, it's extremely obvious what's wrong with them.

Interesting. Hadn't seen that rear bumper image before. Looks aggressive although the diffuser area looks a little odd and undefined.

Curious to hear how theyre different than the real thing, bc to me they look to be exactly what's behind all the camo on the prototype cars.

Music to my ears, reserve the restraint classy look for the M5. The smallest M car should be wild and racy IMO.

The long and low excitement period of flaky information has now officially been replaced with the relatively short and high excitement period from when real information start flowing until the official reveal.

Hopefully it’s not going to be too much of a painful stop and go story dragged out over months. A May reveal would be appreciated

Agreed. Didn't think my comment on that long thread would get moved by a mod into its own post, and that post make the front page. Now I'm really hoping this thread gives BMW a nice shove so they release the car earlier
