Stock pads? Those really seem like the weak point of these cars, tons of dust and poor longevity on the track.

Yes stock pads but the point is these new M cars are simply too heavy.

It's my main issue with them, even the questionable design decisions are just subjective but you can't hide the fact that weight is a killer.

That's true, but I don't think that will be changing anytime soon. I know when I'll be getting my m3 the pads are the first thing I'm changing when it lands in my garage.

His comment is that any all wheel drive Audi is front wheel biased and a BMW xdrive is rear wheel biased when transferring power to the ground. Many consider the handling characteristics better in rear wheel drive biased power trains.

I would literally sh*t myself if they brought back the 1M as a 5-door hatcher with M-xDrive.

Meh - It's the same platform as the M3/M4, so it is not like there are any significant development hurdles.

His comment was that the Audi was FWD. Not FW biased.

No Audi sold in the U.S. is FWD.

More tech, better badge, and 4 doors.

Pretty simple.

This would be the perfect combo.

Yes it would. I really like my M240i xdrive with ZF8 auto, but I miss the manual transmission. If it came in a 6spd manual I would keep it, but BMW forces me to upgrade to the new M2 for a manual gearbox. Deposit down, now another wait.

I understand what you are saying. But even the Savage Geese RS3 review implies FWD. Yes we all know it is AWD, but it is a FWD car.
I love Mark's comment that he wishes the RS3 was only RWD. LOL

Sure launches great for a FWD car.

I agree. That FWD Audi is totally based.

Love this news!

Have some empathy for us Midwest enthusiasts who have cold weather 6 months of the year.

Very excited to order my M2C XDrive once I upgrade from RS3. I think the RWD-biased AWD and S58 will be an incredible combo!

IF they could have (or, more accurately, if they were inclined to) offered this powertrain, it would have been available in the G8x, and I'd have put my dislike for the design to the side and ordered one. If it comes to fruition in the next M2, I'll most likely have some thinking to do .

I think this ship has fully left the port though, unfortunately. If you want +400hp, AWD, and 3 pedals; there are no more games left for you on showroom floors. It's used R8, lambo, or an older S4/S5; and that's your world of choices.

You're right, I think the G80 would have gotten this treatment if it were going to happen.

Just sold my manual S5 too. Options out there for an AWD M/T are extremely limited.

It's not just the pads. You have to look at the entire brake package. BMW did a lot of cost cutting on the G series M cars. Brakes were a part of that. The front disks on the M3/4 are smaller than the rear disks on the F87C. And the rear brakes are a tiny single piston floating caliper. They are literally almost non-existent. If you're looking to spend time on the track, because of the sheer size and weight of the G series cars, brakes are the first thing to change.

Not totally accurate- there's the 991 and 992 Porsche 4S/GTS models that you can get in manual but those are also $100k + except for a few older 991.1 models
