I pay cash for cars too (unless there's a crazy low rate). That's not a plus with dealers, it shuts down one of their top profit streams.

Your attitude about what happened is fantastic, but what the dealer did to you was bad faith.

They wanted max profit, but played a game with you, and probably others, to string them along believing one would pay the price.

I have no issue with a dealer making profit, but the way this one went about it was unethical and unprofessional, they deserve the hits they are taking.

I can empathize. Happened when I was putting deposits down on my OG M2

I went from #1 to #3

Owner allowed their friend to take the HEA and the owner took the 1st allocation.

Switched dealers after a lot of profanities

Update: The matter was escalated. The district manager reached out to me genuinely concerned about the situation and committed to an investigation, as well as providing a resolution that works for me. Initially, he looked for cars in the network. None are available. I found one outside of their network, with a small premium over MSRP. They committed to covering a large portion of the cost above our original deal (mainly shipping). I accepted and I’m proceeding with the purchase of the alternate car.

I’m actually very happy with how this was resolved. There was no negotiating and the solution came as quickly as one can expect. I’m still getting a car in a very reasonable timeframe. My AutoNation point of contact after the escalation was extremely pleasant and did everything he said he was going to do when he said he was going to do it.

We still have to see this all the way through. Assuming the verbal agreement we made is honored, I have no qualms shopping with AutoNation and BMW of the Woodlands again.

AutoNation is a conglomerate and therefore they were in a position to help you out - congratulations. They do however stay in business and are growing because they know and focus on increasing and maximizing profit and the bottom line. Owners and GMs do very well…..

There a lot of family owned dealers that do business differently, full transparency and MSRP only.

However, there are also a lot of large or small dealerships that are always looking to maximize immediate profit which pays the bills and impacts their own commissions and their personal take-home pay. It always helps to build relationships and understand how your particular dealer operates, if you want to spend that time. There are also many buyers out there that will get on multiple lists and play this game to their advantage.

With all of that said, getting too emotional about it isn’t worth my time anymore either…..

Final update:

BMW of the Woodlands and AutoNation made good on their promise to cover costs related to purchasing my G87 elsewhere.

I'm very impressed with how management responded once they got wind of what happened. Once escalated, the process of finding and executing a resolution was completely painless. Communication was always friendly, efficient, and prompt. The regional manager provided me with his personal cell phone number so that I could call him directly with any questions or needs.

The missing sales manager signature on the deal sheet never came up. I never had to argue whether or not my reservation was valid. They immediately acknowledged that we had a deal and they messed up. They were prepared to do whatever was necessary to make me fully satisfied. I found that honorable. They were genuinely sorry about what happened.

How an organization handles problems says a lot about them. In my case, AutoNation passed with flying colors and gets a thumbs up from me.

Very happy things worked out for you. Congratulations. The fact that you didn’t make a big deal of it and were very level headed went a long way.

What are the specs of the new car you are receiving ? What’s the ETA ?

Very happy for you that it got sorted out! Whose attention did you bring this to? I thought management was the one who made the decision to sell your car. My CA told me last month that my dealership's management was considering to put a markup on my order, and it's currently in production right now. My CA said it probably won't happen, but I'm still worried and I need to know what to do in case it does happen.

I buy a lot of parts at Steven's Creek BMW. But this is exactly why I would NEVER buy a car from them. They have a Brooklyn Gray M2 as well for the same $20k markup...

If you don't have anything with a dealer signature on it, then there's really nothing you can do other than stay level-headed, provide examples of market value not being over MSRP, etc.

My dealership is also an AutoNation dealership. If they really do decide to markup my order at the very last minute, I will print out this entire thread and throw it onto their management's desk.
