CA just texted me today, looks like my stop was also cleared and is on it's way to the dealership.

Of course just as I'm travelling at the end of the month. Go figure.

Won't be long now though.

Has anyone received confirmation that their car required replacement of the knock sensor? My CA just called and let me know that my M340 should be getting on a truck from the port to MA shortly. He said that he assumed that the knock sensor was replaced because of the duration of the car at the port, but he wouldn't know for sure until they connect a scanner to the car when it arrives. The car was also getting an exhaust swap at the port.

Based on what I’ve seen it takes to replace the sensor I highly doubt this was done at port.

Mine was at port for over 7 weeks and had the hole when it arrived. 3 days later bmw says it’s fine and released it. Nothing was ever fixed or changed in the car.

Was at the port for seven weeks? For what reason?

If at the port...what supply chain? Did you have items being port installed?

Nope, the word on the street was the whole yard was filled with cars that they couldn’t get loaded as shipping is backed up. Who knows what is BS and what is real. all I know is my car sat at the port in Germany for 7.5 weeks until it finally got on a ship and BMW just said things like:

“Thanks for reaching back out. I'm very sorry to read of your concerns.

Our vehicle tracking system is still indicating that your vehicle is at port waiting to be assigned to a vessel for transport to the U.S. However, we've recently been advised that due to circumstances in the global logistics operations at the port that are outside BMW’s control, there are shipping delays. “

Ahhh...not talking about your M2 but a different car. I thought you were referring to an M2 was sitting at the Brunswick port for seven weeks.

Sorry, I got pulled into this discussion because of the stop order that was affecting lots of models and I was one of the first day affected and ended up here - will shut up now so I don’t add more confusion!

They said done by next day since parts were in stock. I got a call around 10AM it was done and picked up around 3!

They said they did not have to remove the bumper to access the knock sensors, only the alternator.

Car is awesome!

I somehow feel my car may have some responsibility towards this knock sensor hold. On the test drive after delivery in the very beginning of April I was part throttle uphill after about a half-mile and the reduced power message and a myriad of other lights came on. Limped it back to dealership and service checked it out. Both knock sensors bad. Had to go home without it and wait for the repair. I was definitely ready to pull the plug knowing how in depth my brand new engine was about to be taken apart but the dealer salvaged the sale in a way that benefitted me financially and so far I'm at 2k trouble free miles.

My car reports the knock sensor error after delivery 5 weeks ago, vehicle produced in June 2023. BMW here in Germany has diagnosed the error and is planning 3 days for the repair. Dismantling the vehicle to replace 2 sensors, unbelievable. They can keep the car for all I care

looks like your Dealership has never done these before..... yes BMW Stares 86AW equals ~8hrs...... did a few of them ..never disassembled the Coolingpackage and stuff like that what bmw says is needed to replace the knock sensors.. it usually takes about 2hrs but as mech they watch you .. if you clear the error memory two hours after starting to work on the car.. and you state the car as repaired .. they will charge your dealership that you did nit work as it is in the repairmanual... so the mech does the job in two hours ans sits around for another 6 just to wait that he can clear the menory and doesn´t get fxxxxd from bmw ......

Seems to be true, they said the bumper had to be removed, etc.
It should be fine with me if half the front end isn't dismantled. The car probably already had the fault when it was handed over. Or is just a simple software update enough? I can't believe it, the thing doesn't have the power to safely overtake a tractor

I wonder how the car even managed to pass the handover inspection at 19km. At first I thought the error message "drive power reduced" was due to the small amount of petrol in the tank (range for 8km) on the day of delivery.

My G87(MY24 built week 32) has arrived yesterday and is due for the PDI in the upcoming week. My salesman said that due to the ongoing issues with the knock sensor on most of the new BMWs, they will have to drive my car for up to 20miles in order to examine it. Anyone else have experienced this approach to troubleshooting it?

I usually had the problem 15km after a cold start, once the problem only occurred after 26km of driving. Even if the workshop drives a few kilometers on the new car, have them check it thoroughly before you take delivery of the car. The sensors on my M2 have now been replaced.
