That's it, one catch-all type question. The star ratings presumably were applied by CR based on what percentage of owners said yes to that question.

So Rivian, with a small customer base relative to other mfrs, has a very high percentage of owners who say they would buy the same vehicle again. That is one data point. The reliability and other rankings are different data points.

I wouldn't question the data, I would just understand what it is, and therefore what it does and does not mean. It's one data point relating to responses to a single question.
That's a good explanation of this particular survey. What's interesting is to look at the survey over the course of several years. Next year, current Rivian owners will have one more year of ownership and new owners will be weighing in on the survey and it may or may not look different, not only for Rivian but all of the other brands too.

The JDP survey is for Sales Satisfaction and the CR survey is Owner Satisfaction (would you buy the same vehicle again).

I know. It is a big part of overall satisfaction and helpful to put the numbers into perspective.

Rivian doesn’t sell enough cars to count IMO. I am surprised about Mercedes. We bought our last one in 2020. What has happened to the MB brand?

Many of my colleagues driving Teslas are also coming from non luxury brands so they’re believing they’re driving a luxury vehicle.

I think this really does say a lot about BMW. They now have a product line that caters to all ages, climates, and budgets.

The key, IMO, is consolidation and execution of technology in their cars. My ‘21 530e, my wife’s ‘20 X7, and my in laws ‘24 X3 all share a lot of the same controls, switchgear, and iDRIVE 7 interface. It makes for a reliable deployment of model, less parts to keep up with, and better cross trained technicians.

Rivian/Telsa have a very different service dept experience and Porsche certainly is not catering to those on a budget or necessarily using it as a primary daily driver.

Porsche has daily drivers - Panamera, Cayenne, Macan, Taycan, etc.

If you live close to a Tesla service center it can work fine, you just have to wait several weeks for an appt.

BMW has several different iDrive systems currently out there, so it really just depends.

Interesting to see Acura so high in Premium and Honda so low in Mass-Market, in the JD Power results. I would not expect them to diverge like that, or if they did I would expect it to be Honda high, Acura low just due to the competition in their segments.

Getting my first BMW this week, both excited and scared, heard the best and the worst about BMW. One thing is certain, they are very easy on the eyes😄

You are. As discussed above, Rivian was number 1 only in one particular CR survey - the one where they asked current owners if they'd buy the same vehicle again. On the CR reliability rankings and then overall composite rankings, which are different charts, Rivian did not fare nearly as well.

With Porsche and BMW being the only brands our family bought this millennium it’s tough to decide between them, BMW is more an even like now a days, Porsche is pure love except when paying for anything, starting with the initial purchase to every service visit when itÂ’s pure disgust

Thank you, I was really confused, obviously.

Tesla's have a lot of things going for them. Easily the best "EV experience" with the only reliable charging network, low maintenance and upkeep, and if it's your thing, the simplistic spartan interiors and simplified feature sets can actually be a positive in a world of super complicated vehicles. If I was going to buy an EV, I would still only buy a Tesla. I helped a family member buy a Y, and they've loved it. Would they buy one again? Emphatically YES.

I don't think Rivian will sustain their #1 rating.

BMW's high ranking is well deserved. We don't buy vehicles that often, and we're on our fourth. It's sad to see Audi and MB down so low.

It seems like I’ve seen more Rivians on the flatbed or side of the road than actually on the road.

Ditto, well at least equal numbers on 1-2 car trailers and on the road, but I think that might be part of their delivery and service model right? They dont have dealers so cars get delivered to your house and then picked up if they need to go to a shop...

Congrats to BMW, well-deserved.

Reasonable performance for Porsche, as expected.

MB is pure garbage, the result unsurprisingly shows this.

My wife and I have owned 7 BMWs over the last ~20 years, including a 2025 X7 we just purchased two months ago. For the last 22 months, we've also owned a Rivian R1T.

I love cars and I look at listings or build something in a manufacturer's configurator multiple times per week. That said, I have no desire to replace the Rivian with any other vehicle. I can only speak to my personal experiences, but I've had a single issue requiring service and it was addressed in my driveway by a mobile technician. The creativity with the storage space is outstanding and the steering/handling are excellent. With 800+ horsepower and enough range to camp in the mountains for the weekend without worrying about battery levels, I can absolutely understand why Rivian ranked at the top of a survey like this.
