You should have a production number the minute your CA submits your order and it is accepted with an allocation ready. You are then assigned a VIN once your car is scheduled for production.

If you are in the order bank waiting for an allocation, you will not have a production number however.

Hmmm yeah maybe im just misunderstanding her. I think i assumed i had already gotten an allocation when i placed the order with them because they told me that delivery would be Jan/Feb and that they had some allocations available.

In the most recent email she said that my car was waiting in line to be produced, which i guess sounds more like the order is in but i havnt received my allocation yet. I did order the car with the bucket seats, unsure if that can hold things up.

I’m not sure if bucket seats are currently held up. I knew they were in the past few months. I think it sounds like you are in line for an allocation at the moment.

For context- when I placed my order I recieved a production number right away, but my dealership had allocations ready. I’m not sure how production numbers work if you are awaiting an allocation.

I think you might want to call BMW Genius and ask about your order. They will have more info during this stage, and it sounds like your CA might be confusing the situation with some wording choices lol. Best of luck, tell us what you find out.

The way I communicated this to dealers was something along the lines of "Do you have an allocation available? What is the production date? When can you send me the Vehicle Inquiry Report?"

You'll know pretty quickly if they have an allocation or are trying to play games with you because they won't just outright answer these questions.

The Vehicle Inquiry Report contains the production number that will allow you to track the order and is a standard document in the process.

Yeah i should have been more straightforward with my questioning. I asked her what my ETA for delivery would be when i placed the order and she told me Jan/Feb because the order was already in. And i just took that as her saying i got an allocation already. Time to confirm! haha

Full carbon pack with buckets? Those have been delayed from the start but have slowly been getting better but could definitely be playing a role.

Port installs only cause delays after VPC delivery but not by much unless they are waiting on parts lol (mine got delayed 2 weeks at port waiting on parts for HAS install).

Ah ok yeah that makes sense then. Yeah full carbon pack with buckets. I didnt think an option like that would delay an actual allocation though. Oh well.

You know whats absolutely blowing my mind right now. Is how there doesnt seem to be a single dealership built M2 out there in the US available to buy that has the carbon buckets with the automatic transmission. There are maybe 30 or so M2s in my surrounding area. And every single M2 that has buckets, has a Manual transmission. Is just noone speccing the buckets with the Auto trans? I dont understand. Its literally the only combination of specs that i want but i have to wait for a car to be build because literally not a single dealership has decided to spec a black m2 with the ZF8 and the carbon package. Why is that the case?

Heritage Leader is currently docked at Lazaro Cardenas, being loaded.

Called BMW Genius earlier and they told me a different story from last time. My car was in transit from the manufacturing plant to the port of departure on the 13th of November. I’d assume that meant that it’s already at the port? I’m praying that my car makes it on this boat

My M2 auto with carbon package and HAS started production on 10/12. I took delivery on 11/10. At this dealership, all M2's were pre sold. So I guess the dealer has no need to order for the inventory.

Unsure…id only go buckets if the car was auto. Manual with buckets isn’t refined due to the middle piece blocking heel-toe action as well as constantly moving both legs with limited leg room. I opted out of buckets for my 6MT.

I have big legs though so that might also play a part.

Right?! This is kinda the general assumption that i've had. I mean granted there arent many cars with the buckets, but it's just weird that they are ALL MT.

Oh well i'm just hoping i hear back from my SA soon about whether or not i actually have an allocation or not. 1 month from build to delivery doesnt seem too bad and i placed my order on 11/9.

Ok so Update on my end. My SA emailed me back and said that i do indeed have an allocation. However, and i quote "We are waiting for them to produce the car so i can send you tracking."

I'm not totally sure what this means, but it seems like what she is trying to say is that once the order for production and the build starts they will get a VIN which she will then send me so i can track the car. Maybe?

Status 112 already has production # assigned, prior to VIN assignment. You can sign up for mygarage with production #. She should be able to provide production number if status 112.

Could be order received/accepted stage which would be ahead of scheduling. I believe status 110/111, in which case may not have a production #.
