I didnt go for wireless charging but I was watching a video about digital key in phone wallet but I think they placed the phone in wireless charge pad to activate it. Does anyone knows if digital key will work if there is no wireless charging option

Agree on convinience factor of $200 wireless charging. I hate cords and plugging in and out every time I get in and out of a car. As long as I can use wireless CarPlay and have the phone on the charger and not loose charge, I’m fine with that. Figure if you drive the car 1x a day on avg for several years and you divide $200 for this festure by the 1000+ times you would plug in and out, it equates to pennys per usage.

My lengthy experience with BMW’s wireless charging has been less than ideal. The only thing that it does well is excessively heat your battery with little change to your current charge. The excessive heat is detrimental to your phone. I find it as a deterrent given that there is really no longer the need to replace your phone at every launch of a new generation. For the moment smartphone technology is pretty much at a standstill. Last edited by T_U_D; 01-17-2023 at 10:00 AM.. |

I have a real fear of missing out. For that reason I am getting almost every option other than carbon seats, parking assist, and M driver's package.
The HUD is a no brainer for me. It can be turned off by any future owner that doesn't want it. I want to experiment with the 5g hotspot since I stream a lot of podcasts to listen to while I drive. It's also opening up to more carriers. Again, if a future owner doesn't want it then they just don't have to use it. With the wireless charger, I'm a little on the fence. It obviously doesn't work too well. It charges slow and overheats the phone. My main reason for wanting it is if (and this is a big if) it enables digital key then I really want this option. At this time we really don't know if the M2 will come with digital key or if it will be tied to the wireless charger. But the FOMO is strong and I will probably get it. |

But forcing us to pretty much pay a while lot for a track day. I mean it's probably a good track day but not worth $2500. I want all the other stuff in the package. Just sucks they force you to get it if you want the seats. I could use that $2500 to not only raise the limiter but raise the power to G80 comp levels or higher. Of course I'd have to hope the aftermarket G80 clutches work. |

My gut tells me they won't until the upcoming M2C comes out. I can see them making the CF roof standard on it and then either packaging the rest of the CF parts or some of them together, but that's just a guess.

I absolutely loved the HUD in my C7, it was fantastic. The iDrive 8 HUD is too large, too busy, and sits too high. I have been turning it off for now. I'll probably try to adjust it a bit more.

Weird. I think it's just the right size, I decluttered it to only show tac, speed, and next turn (in Sport mode), and I placed it right down next to the hood. I've never seen the HUD in the C7, so I can't say how it compares.

Interesting. I can put the HUD right next to the hood. I don't think I'm sitting terribly high, but there's no way to really judge such things. Sorry it doesn't work for you!

I do find the sport mode hud better but the Comfort mode one is awful with the blue bar going across the entire bottom. Looks like this, any lower and the bottom starts to disappear Last edited by fcman; 10-16-2023 at 11:18 PM.. |

Wish I had a more decisive answer. I was on the fence and decided to get it.
I found myself turning it off half the time, especially at night. As a stand-alone option, I’d probably pass on it. Only arguments I’d have for it would be resale value and it gives the car a more premium feel. |

Three of my vehicles have HUD, and I wouldn't have a vehicle without it now. The "road" layout on my BMWs leaves a lot to be desired. On my wife's '22 X3MC it displays just a tiny speed limit sign, much smaller than the one displayed on the M2. This setting was better on my '22 330e (not sure why they're all different?). The Sport display on the X3 is very large and distracting at night. I probably need to adjust the positioning and brightness. I use the Sport display every time I'm in the M2 (daily) and don't find it distracting at all. For some reason I can position it much lower in the M2 than the X3 - again why this is different between vehicles I don't know. All that said, it's much better than the HUD display in my '11 Z06 that looks like Atari compared to the BMW's display.

My first HUD was in my 2018 Camaro 2SS 1LE. Came standard with the 1LE package. Once I had that, there was no going back. I never turned it off, even at night.
It's the one feature I really miss on my M2C that the Camaro had. Well, that and the ventilated seats. I'm thinking about ordering a 2025 G87, and the HUD is a must-have option. I track my cars once per year, and I've been to 14 events since 2007. I'm not an expert but have advanced to the Intermediate run group and am allowed to drive solo. There's so much information overload while you're on the track, plus adrenaline, and the fact that everything is happening so fast, it's not the easiest thing to look down to the gauges. The HUD made shift points so much easier for me, without taking my eyes from the windshield. For anyone who thinks they might track the car, my advice is to get the HUD. If you don't like it in normal daily driving, or it's too bright at night, or you can't position it exactly where you want it, then turn it off. But I think on track you would definitely want to use it and it will be an aid.

only regret I have is that if the windshield cracks the replacements for a HUD compatible one are way more expensive than a normal windscreen replacement...
I'm not sure that I would have not spec'd it because I do enjoy having it, and I haven't cracked a windscreen in 10+ years.. but just the thought bugs me sometimes. |
