I could tell the difference in my F80. Carbon roof squeaked. Sunroof did not. There was a lot more headroom with the carbon roof. I had to Teflon coat the door seals after every wash or rainstorm or it sounded like a heard of chipmunks on cocaine during Mardi Gras.

Welcome to the internet. It's been this way for 30 years. People are entitled to their opinions, yes. If they're going to share them online, and be unoriginal and pissy about it, they're gonna get clapped back. It's not like the post says anything that hasn't been said before - since the day the press embargo was lifted on this car. It sounds like our friend could have saved himself $64,000 on a car if he did 5 minutes worth of google research. Then this post would've never existed in the first place. Tired of people beating a dead horse.

I’ve had a pile of cars, and is the G87 anything like my 911? No. Is it a slouch? Nope. I have the 6MT, and even though the G87 is heavy, it’s a fun fun fun car. My only real gripe are the steering and the clutch feel. The steering is soulless. The clutch feel is meh. Might pull the CDV. Other than that having raced rallye cars and GT cars in the past, this thing is a hoot. No it’s not an E90, it’s most certainly not an E46 M3 either. But frankly it’s a lot of car for the price. I’m an gen X I wouldn’t mind a few more knobs instead of buttons. But would I sell or trade the G87? Nope definitely not. If you find it boring I’m not sure how. I just get in, hit the M1 button for around town or the M2 button for giggles. It’s not hard to push a button before driving off. The M Display is simpler, and someone on here makes a little box if you want it on all the time. But hey if you hate it, that’s ok too. Not every car suits everyone.

Lol. You tried to play your big trump card (“I’m a weekend track star - VROOM VROOM - so I’m the subject matter expert!”) and it backfired in hilarious fashion. Take the loss like a man.

Also, ask yourself why, whenever there is a dumb flame war on the G87 forum, you’re usually involved.

Pros:
  • Comfortable as a daily driver
  • Great tech
  • S58 (>3500 RPM)

Cons:
  • Default efficient setting for engine/throttle is incredibly lifeless - it should be called Eco
  • Lack of torque under 3500 RPM - I sometimes like to short shift but that's not rewarding with this motor at all (I have the AT)
  • Weight - those who say they don't feel the weight are nuts - this thing is heavy (I replaced the wheels with forged ones to save weight but it only did so much)
  • Steering feel - been covered many times, it's pretty non-existent
  • M-Mode display can't be programmed with M1/M2 buttons

Again, nothing earth shattering here but just thought it might be helpful for those doing research. Don't get me wrong, it's an extremely capable car, it just doesn't feel exciting or connected to me...
I felt pretty much the same way. It's a great car but that doesn't mean it's for everyone. I wish I had gotten the automatic over the manual bc the manual was just a PITA. People will call auto lovers stupid but IDGAF, they're faster and more efficient and technically superior in every way.

I'm looking into the CS and make sure I test drive one first.

I think that car enthusiasts say —the auto is stupid and something that sucks the soul out of your body. The MT is the only reason to get the G87 which is the best analog experience you can have in a 2024 model. Just go EV if you want the numbers. Tesla M3P is impressive, cheaper, and the new plaid version will be even better.

I think it's not car "enthusiasts" as much as just older owners who are stuck in their ways. Actual "enthusiasts (however that term is defined) look at a vehicle's total package of attributes, not one single option. If you live anywhere with even a decent amount of traffic, daily driving a vehicle with a manual transmission will definitely suck the soul out of your body. If the vehicle is your weekend toy, by all means get a manual.

99.99% of owners can't use the vehicle's full potential, and definitely not on the street, so arguing over which version is faster is pointless. If you're planning to track the vehicle and you're concerned about times, you already know the auto is the better choice.

After 4 years of ownership and driving my 135i MT through traffic as a daily, I told myself I’d never get a BMW MT again. The MT / clutch / shifter etc in the 135i wasn’t particularly great. In fact it sucked. I even put a short shifter in and that didn’t help. I put a clutch stop in and that helped but only so much. I never did the CDV delete - I should have.

So what do I do? This many years later, I’m building an MT BMW again.

I think the Ultra pedal, CDV delete, ssk etc will all help this one out. It felt better on my test drives than my 135i did stock.

I don’t know - tough call. I’ve daily’d an auto CUV for the last like 7 years and am itching for another manual sports car. Hope I’m not making a mistake.

My son gives me crap all the time about being in love with many of these modern AT. My Mustang had a 10R80. It was a bit finicky when cold at light throttle, but when warm and under moderate acceleration or more it was amazing. Then I had it tuned and it hit so hard on the WOT shifts it was a lot of fun.

I think BMW has this ZF dialed in even on the high performance M platforms. Loved it in her X3MC and this M2 as well.

Would a MT M2 be fun at times? I'm sure it would and I've owned plenty MT over the years, but for my wants, needs and performance it's AT all the way for me.

There is no right or wrong. Whatever floats your canoe.
