700 whp is almost 250 whp over stock. I would be worried about traction and other mechanical issues in addition to the manual transmission. Issues with the manual are rare and there are plenty tuned Ms with the same manual transmission making some nice power without issues. Will need an upgraded clutch but otherwise seems like concerns would be similar to auto at those power levels. Traction will be tough on the street. Dedicated wheels/tires needed for the track.

If I were going for really big numbers it would have to be an XDrive just for tractions sake, which unfortunately doesn’t come in manual and at that point if I’m buying an auto, I’m not sure it would be an M.

Make a video record of it and show it to BMW. Turn off the active sound so they can hear the gear grinding better.

Buy a Miata if you want to bang gears. 3rd on this car is already 108mph.

So you drive around all day banging 1st through 4th gear, hitting 140mph from every stop?

Pretty much. Hence why I bought an M2, and not a 2 series.

Is that why he's trying to scam BMW North America into paying for it? Lol.

Nobody is trying to scam my friend. I think you and your garage queen have had enough of the forums for the day.

If I wanted to scam, I’d lemon. I love my car and put a lot of money into it. I drive it. You should do the same and enjoy it!

Definitely didn't mean to hijack the thread, I was just expressing some shared concern over the manual transmission, like other people were expressing.

Of course I don't hard redline the car and do 140mph between stop lights on the way to the grocery store. No bravado or bragging about anything here at all, I just didn't find "go get a Miata" to be helpful, and saying that 3rd gear is 108 doesn't mean you can't have fun driving hard. No huge steel balls, not even my intent. The Internet is a hard place to convey your message across in written form.

Just like @Geighty7 said, sometimes it's fun to drive a car aggressively, and I would be concerned about shifting too fast or bending a shifter fork.

I guarantee you my G87 has more miles and track usage than yours, but whatever you say, big buy.

leaving aside the normative/ethical argument of how consumers should interact with corporations, i'd say trying to warranty something first would probably be most people's first reaction regardless. if you never ask the answer is always no and maybe they would have just done it. i think its fair to start there right?

He's already openly admitted to modifying the vehicle's drivetrain systems and abusing it. BMW should have no problem sniffing out his tough guy behavior when they read the DME logs and find his CVD is missing. They don't replace entire transmissions lightly.

To be fair, "Go buy a Miata" is always good advice on any day of the week. Everyone should go buy a Miata. They're ridiculously fun and I think if some people on this forum had more fun they'd be a little less stuffy about everybody else's business (this isn't directed at you, or anyone in particular, just *waves hands* in general)

well thats kind of my point right, hes not hiding that he modifies and "drives hard", whether this all violates the spirit of the warranty agreement between BMW and the buyer of an M branded vehicle... ill leave that to the reader to decide because im not really sure myself.

i'd also argue that theres far, far more egregious recent threads of people trying to shed personal responsibility for their actions and pin the blame on BMW for something that was absolutely, 100% their fault...

Fun fact: ND Miata’s are blowing transmissions left and right. Dedicated sub forum just to discus all the problems.

If M2’s were suffering the same amount of failures it would be a national story lol.

I bought a Miata, blew the transmission, as they do and got it warranty replaced. Then I traded it in for one 3 years newer for the “fix”

Definitely a car that’s fun to beat the piss out of. Not going to drive the M2 any differently when I get it

Miata is always the answer but I’m ready for something different
