since 911s are brought up so frequently round these parts, porsche just announced its first non GT, manual transmission 992- the Carrera T.

STARTING at 134k USD. while i like the move to bring in a purist model below the GT cars, at over double the MSRP of a base G87, it really drives home what a good deal our cars are.

that is a great combo, I went from F87 M2C to GTS 4.0 but wished I could have kept both, different kinds of fun
what makes the G87 better than the F87's you had, for you?

Hey baege! I agree....I wish I could have kept the F87 as well. I feel the G87 can do it all now. In comfort it rides like a 3 series, but with the press of a button it is an absolute lunatic. The F87 is an incredible car, but the DCT around town, no adjustable suspension and felt less planted on boost is why I lean towards the G87. Also, the S58 is an absolute beast. I guess, in the end, I needed an M2 that was more of an all rounder, but with the press of a button could still give me the M2 thrills. I will miss the F87, but the new girl is helping me forget.

Porsche has really jacked up the prices. I feel like it’s about $50k overpriced now once you option it out. I could see $105-110k nicely optioned, but over $150k for a base 911 with some performance options? Come on.

The 135k t has all the good options. Its by no means a bargain, but you don't need to add anything to it.

This is an interesting take. However, I don’t think I’ve ever bought a sports car thinking how much value it provides though.

not sure what you mean. you've never placed a budget at $X (whatever your number is) and cross shopped what you can get for it? you just default to porsche?

My point is that I’ve never bought a vehicle because it’s a good deal. Of course I have a budget when car shopping, but I usually hit or exceed that budget.

I currently have an order for a G80 manual that’s week 48. I chose the G80 over the G87 mainly because of the significantly nicer interior (I went full tartufo leather with carbon buckets).

buying a mode of transport simply because it is a good deal is getting a hyundai lease special. buying an enthusiast car at 70k+ because it punches above its weight class is a not the same.

Since you went with the cf buckets (which are also an option on the G87), other than the color, what does your G80 have that makes the interior nicer?

Merino vs Vernasca leather is a significant upgrade along with leather on the dash and doors. Essentially, everything is covered in real Merino leather when optioning the full leather option.

“Significant” might be a stretch, it’s only one model up after all. Nobody buys an M2 for luxury, it’s all about the platform.

Merino is a significant upgrade over Vernasca leather and all visible surfaces being covered in said Merino leather is significantly nicer too. Add in the color options and I’d say that cabin is “significantly” nicer than what’s available on the G87. All of this is, of course, IMO.

I hear ya. I got buckets so I don't care too much, it's not like I'll be touching my dashboard and door cards. I do wish they offered the m2 buckets in different colors though.

Question on Tartufo carbon buckets.

The order guide says not possible. You have any issues with push back and what was the cost?

I'm thinking of switching to an M4 just because I can get an allocation like yesterday and I'm still getting nothing on an M2. I am going to go with techno violet and hopefully Tartufo carbon buckets.

It's definitely better. With full merino leather you also get a leather dash and all surfaces color matched.

I have full merino in my i4 and it's a night and day difference between almost every i4 out there.

No push back and approval took a week. Pushed my production date back from 45 to 48, which was expected. Total cost was….$40, lol! Not joking.

I heard it was just a $40 upcharge.
That's wild.
And your only requirement was Tartufo and didn't specify stitching right?

That might be enough to get me to switch to an M4. Carbon buckets in tartufo and techno violet.

I have tartufo in the i4 M50 that I'm keeping.
I recently swapped in X4M sport seats.

Only requirements are full leather, carbon buckets and the $40 upcharge. Tartufo carbon buckets with TV sounds absolutely incredible!

I didn’t specify stitching, but you can and the price will go up astronomically.

Wife has full merino in her X3MC, but it didn't come with a leather dash. Sensatec yes, but not leather. I don't think the merino is "significantly" better than the vernasca, just my opinion. I also think her seats are stiffer than mine, and mine are more comfortable, less "slippery".
