Regardless, the existing tracking mechanisms suck. Someone/something should be able to tell where the car is and give automated feedback to the end user and owner. Eliminating Genius and CA aggravation would help everyone. It's coming. This operation is just behind the times of modern tech.

I mean I could go one step further and advocate for eliminating the dealer all together for advanced or custom orders.

it would only work if they could transmit the "calculated location" somewhere though, GPS (in cars) doesn't transmit anything, only receive signals from satellites. Not trying to nerd out or anything, my area of expertise is telecomm and wireless signals in general

I am not trying to argue your area of expertise of technical details of GPS. I am just stating that they could easily make this a reality without too much effort if they wanted to.

All these cars are "connected"
I can see on the myBMW app exactly where my X5 is with no problem. (Excluding parking garages and tunnels)

I would think when the car is in transport mode, it would ping back to BMW HQ every so often or even BMW HQ could ping the location of the car.

The connection made by the car to the BMW network is cell service. Not sure how cars in transport in Mexico or boat would have their cell service configured and paid for to send data.

OH MY GOD! My CA just gave me a call to inform me that my car is on the Glovis Sunrise and due to get off in Baltimore on the 16th!! He said he emailed BMW and he got an email from them this morning with this update. He said it might just not show as updated in the systems just yet.

I know you were 9/29 RFT but since you are in NC and coming in to Baltimore just like me, I hope I’m with you! My dealership (Southpoint - Durham) said they are waiting for 7 cars right now.
But mine is RFT 10/18 so who knows.

Wow it's a party! Look's like I'm on Glover Sunrise too (according to Genius and my CA). ETA (As everyone above mentioned) is 16th to the port of Baltimore. Gotta say. The excitement was 100% fizzled out until now. The excitement resumes!

That's really exciting!! Nothing new when I checked in with Genius just now, but I'll keep an eye out over the next day or two since I was RFT on 9/29 also and going to Baltimore!
