Not sure if serious or not. For many artists today (certainly not limited to just Beyoncé), the process of making a hit is HIGHLY formulaic and manufactured. Which is contrasted to the popular music made decades ago that was simply bursting with raw, natural talent.
A fascinating listen on this is the Freakonomics podcast called "The Song of the Summer". It dives into the song manufacturing process and follows one of Rihanna's songs from start to finish as she attempts to make a summertime hit. Link: http://www.npr.org/sections/money/20...-of-the-summer |
