I disagree. It's going to meet it's full potential as a RWD hooligan.

That's never going to happen
The M2 is once again being held back from its full potential. No surprise from BMW but yet again the M3 is the bigger and better brother to the M2.
I don't personally see it that way

RWD gives the M2 it's unique character
It certainly doesn't have to be xDrive only. There should be the option for the RWD auto and the manual just like the M3. You can also get the xDrive and still have the 10 stage traction control for the RWD setting as well.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised that BMW decided to give the M2 most of the love from the M4 (interior, carbon roof, etc) from what the speculations have been telling us thus far. I just don't like that they held off from what is my favorite part of the car.

That latest video, the driver is absolutely hauling ass on the Ring. Car looks composed but in some sections you can tell the weight, the way it lands on its bump stops.

Either way looks to be very quick, and balanced. I’m excited…

Now if they only made it in Europe as well, and bring back Euro Delivery. Wishful thinking I know.

Totally. I even look forward to the even higher version they featured on the e36 lightweight.

Someone at M finally knows what they're doing. They were hungover during the g80 design session.

I see what you mean; the way how it bottoms out at the 2:17 point in the video, you can tell it's packing on the pounds but it still handles with grace and looks fast enough to outrun the cops, so I'm sold.. 😛

Most of the time, but… not always. Trust me the tail lights are the thing I want changed the most and preferable pre-LCI and again at the LCI.

Hopefully, but just an example, the G01 X3 LCI for 2022 did not receive a laser light option for any of the variants including the M. The G87 LCI is a considerable amount of time away so no telling what could happen between now and then in regards to lighting technology. A total what if, but what if BMW only produces the G87 for five years, MY 2023 to 2027 and there is no LCI? They have done this before and recently. If there is an LCI it quite possibly could receive a mild hybrid treatment?

Good point on the X3 and no laser light option… I was just speculating based on something the admins had stated here in regards to a supposed laser light option eventually being available on the G87 and since there is no current test mules depicting this fact (no telltale blue "scenic" glow), I'm assuming it's going to be a LCI or maybe a CSL exclusive, if that..

As far as the mild hybrid goes, I doubt that's necessary on M cars with the S58 motor.. That engine runs clean enough to satisfy the tree-hugging regulators and has enough headroom for added power just by simply turning up the boost, rendering a mild hybrid an unnecessary expense and weight penalty, on an already chunky vehicle. But what do I know 🤷🏻

I think the G87 (Like the G80 imo) will look good on it’s own but won’t hold up next to it’s predecessor

It's also going to have a louder exhaust and slightly more power for NA bound cars since we don't have the hp and sound robbing particulate filters.

I'm like 99% percent sure those two grills/vents are intake inlets.. On N55 M2, there was an intake horn, running from the airbox to behind the headlights - which is arguably the coolest section under the engine bay.

The G87 headlight adjacent intake inlets seem to be an expansion of this concept, which is some clever engineering, catering to an audience where constant endurance is necessary

Hopefully, it comes out looking somewhat purposeful and classy, like what they pulled off with the M2 CS bumper inlets..
Which actually deceptively turned out to be brake cooling ducts and not intake openings but aesthetically palatable nonetheless.

If we can't get a new headlight, that'd be a badass compromise. Something about esthetically pleasing and functional vents…

The S58 and B58 will be receiving a TU (technical update) in the future. BMW added a 48V mild hybird to the B58 for 2022 so a lot of unknown about the S58s future.

The X5 and X6 M are allegedly going to receive a new engine (S68) with the LCI and it includes mild hybridization. The next Gen M5 is currently testing and it will be a hybrid, not mild. Sadly, the Germans want to hug those tress strongly. Porsche is taking the Boxster and Cayman to EV for the next Gen in 2025. The current Gen is the end of the line for ICE. Rumor also has it that the 992.2 (facelift 992) will see a model(s) with mild hybridization. Full ICE is slowing being killed off.
