I believe this is The Crickets version. It just happens to be on the "Buddy Holly & The Crickets The Complete Singles Edition" album.

I like the Bobby Fuller version as well (it was the biggest hit) but I like The Crickets version better.

Here's the Dead Kennedys' version. They changed the lyrics to say "I fought the law and I won." lol
